SPECTRUM 2019 explore science & engineering PARTNERSHIP OPPORTUNITIES JANUARY 10 TH - 13 TH
What is Spectrum? Thank you for taking the time to learn about partnering with Spectrum 2019 Explore Science & Engineering!" Hosted by College of Engineering students, Spectrum is a triennial exhibition that inspires, educates, and promotes exploration in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM). With an expected attendance of 10,000 this coming January, Spectrum has become a well-known tradition in the College of Engineering, the City of Saskatoon and throughout the province that reaches audiences of all ages, from elementary, high school, and university students and beyond to the professional engineering industry, alumni, and the broader community. We are proud to host Spectrum again on January 10th-13th, 2019 at the College of Engineering at the University of Saskatchewan. Spectrum 2019 will feature displays, interactive exhibits, workshops, competitions, and speakers, and will welcome 3,000 elementary and high school students to explore science and engineering in a way not possible in the classroom via our School Tours program. When you invest in Spectrum, you are supporting new exhibits, interactive workshops, women in STEM and Indigenous STEM sessions, public education, student research, and student design projects. After a hugely successful introduction in 2016, we will be bringing back the Children's Lab Book, an engaging and interactive passport system, and Spectrum 2019 will be creating an Advanced Lab Book to engage with a more mature audience. With your sponsorship, you can experience our new opening breakfast ceremonies where you will be able to kick off Spectrum 2019 alongside the student organizing committee, student group leaders, College of Engineering senior leadership, and valued members of our Spectrum community. With your help, we can make Spectrum 2019 a truly inspirational experience that will lead attendees down a path of lifelong learning and innovative thinking and building the future generation of engineers and scientists! Sincerely, Gillian Leach Coordinator
Letter From the Dean I am plesed to introduce our Spectrum Coordinator, Gillian Leach (Civil Engineering student). Gillian and the Spectrum Team are gearing up for Spectrum 2019, which will shine light into the early weeks of January in Saskatoon! When the College of Engineering first began showcasing student design projects in the 1930 s, the event was called The Engineering Show. Fast forward 90 years. Student design showcases are now appearing at a number of engineering schools in Canada - and Spectrum has grown to become known as North America s largest student-run exhibition of science and technology. It will feature speakers, student projects, workshops, displays and industrial exhibitors from across Canada. While Spectrum spotlights many outstanding projects by our U of S engineering students, it also provides an opportunity for our dynamic and passionate student teams to share their knowledge of science and engineering with their university peers and the public. Most importantly, it is a unique source of education and inspiration for the thousands of elementary and high school students that come to Spectrum and learn about Engineering as a field of study and a profession. This year s event will be held Jan. 10-13, 2019. The theme Explore Science & Engineering reflects the goal of increasing Spectrum s outreach and exposure. While it happens at the College and is coordinated by a dedicated team of Engineering students, it is also a multi-disciplinary celebration of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) which brings together many other colleges, departments, faculties, and stakeholders in the local STEM community. This allows engineering students to collaborate with students from other colleges, leading to innovation and opportunities in new fields. We have stories of interactions during Spectrum leading to longer collaborations, and ultimately spin-off companies after graduation. Our college and university are proud to support our Spectrum team with financial and in-kind contributions. A history of generous support from industry and the community has been integral to the continuing success of Spectrum. Thank you for considering our request for financial support of Spectrum 2019. Your interest in and support of our students, their education, and our college community is very much appreciated and is vital to our success. We look forward to welcoming you to Spectrum 2019: Explore Science and Engineering! Sincerely, Suzanne Kresta Dean, College of Engineering University of Saskatchewan
