9 ebruary 2004 Dear Peter, Enclosed find some new family documents to two of John and Sarah Giddings Whitlock descendants. John Whitlock b. 8 Jan. 1844 in Cobb Co., GA. D. 21 Nov. 1878 in White Co., Indiana. I believe the John Whitlock I found on 1870 census in Carroll Co., Indiana and whose marriage record to Mary Nees and cemetery record that is enclosed is the same John Whitlock who was son of John and Sarah (Giddings) Whitlock. John B. Whitlock married Sarah Elizabeth oster in Alabama. According to John's descendants he disappeared after returning home rrom the Civil \Var to find his wife, Sarah had given birth to a child during his absence that could not be his child. While researching my gr-grandfather, Thomas who is John's brother I found Thomas living with a John and Mary Whitlock in Carroll Co., Indiana. The age is really close to the same John. I sent for the marriage record of John and Mary which is attached. There is also a cemetery record of John attached. There is one significant difference in that the middle initial on marriage and cemetery record is T rather than B. I still very sure this is Thomas' brother as my mother who is now 80 remembers her conversations with her grandfather, Thomas and he told her about his Civil War experiences and how he and his brother John remained close even though John had served in the Confederate Army and Thomas in the Union Army. Thomas moved to Elk Creek, Nebraska after July 1880 and after the death of John in 1878. (A personal note: My mom remembers her grandfather, Thomas proudly wearing his blue uniform in Veterans day parades even though living in at that time in Arkansas most veterans wore Gray who had served during the Civil War.) Guy Burdell Whitlock b. 23 July 1880 in Brookston (White Co.) Indiana d. 25 May 1923 in Whiteson (Yamhill) Oregon. Guy married rankie May Wallace 27 June 1905 in Avoca, Iowa. Guy was the third son of Thomas W. and Mary Robison Whitlock. I have attached the family records that have been sent to me by Guy's granddaughter, Julie Sanborn. I have also sent their wedding picture. While researching White Co., Indiana I discovered Thomas and Mary's first born son, William Edward Whitlock b. 1774 d. 1776. (Attached is cemetery record) I had been told there may have been a son born before their second son, John Robison Whitlock but did not have proof or name till locating the cemetery record. Thomas and Mary moved to Elk Creek, Nebraska after 1880 and before Sept 1882. Their daughter, Emma May was born at Elk Creek in Sept 1882. Mary Robison Whitlock died Dec. 1882 and after her death the three children eventually were cared for by rriends and family. John lived with the Beard family in Elk Creek Emma lived with Mrs Jacob Craft in Elk Creek and Guy lived with his aunt, Ida Robison Potter. Ida and Elmer Potter moved to Iowa and took Guy with them. After Thomas married again in 1886 to Sarah Nail only Emma eventually came to live with her father. I had a difficult time locating information about Guy as living relatives knew little as to where he eventually settled. Only recently Guy's granddaughter, Julie contacted me and we exchanged our family information.

I am wondering if any of the researchers of this lineage from John Whitlock b. ca. 1792 in SC and Sarah Giddings of S.c. have connected a William Whitlock as the father of John Whitlock. When I discovered the first born of Thomas and his brother> John had named their first boms William and their second sons John I wondered if there is a reason. On census, marriage record of Thomas Whitlock he gives his father's name as John which is what I know to be fact. Only on Thomas' death certificate is his father named as William. It may be significant or just an error of the son who gave the information. Ifanyone has any thoughts or proof that would help us get past John Whitlock of S.c. I would appreciate hearing from them. Thanks again for all your work for all our Whitlock families. Sincerely, Conroe, Texas 77303 Attached: 1870 census of Carroll Co., Indiana Marriage Record of John Whitlock and Mary Nees Marriage Record of Thomas W.
