ALUMNI 101 Welcome to HSC s Alumni Community Graduation doesn t mark the end of your ties with Hillfield Strathallan College; your status simply changes from student to alumni! With your new title comes new privileges and honours. The Alumni Association existed before the amalgamation of Hillfield College and Strathallan School in 1969. To date, 70 Alumni Presidents have overseen this active association, which consists of more than 3,000 members and over 100 Class Representatives. The Alumni Association takes pride in bringing the talents and enthusiasm of its members back to HSC to enhance the educational experience of our students. Alumni Programming The Alumni Office is located in the Strathallan Building and is ready to support the efforts of a broad range of Alumni volunteers. The Alumni Association Executive oversees the HSC Mentor Connect program, and awards such as the Alumni Award of Distinction, Hall of Excellence and the Athletic Hall of Fame. It is also involved in events such as the HSC Golf Classic, Carol Service reception, Young Alum Pub Nights, Homecoming, and regional reunions, to name a few. Objectives of the Alumni Association The Alumni Association s primary objectives are to: Promote the interests of all alumni Represent the alumni in all matters related to the College Build a base of dedicated volunteers whose experiences will benefit the College Preserve the traditions of the College for future generations Act as a public relations vehicle to attract support to the College and alumni programming To put it simply, the Alumni Association ensures that the voices of the alumni are heard by the College and vice versa, representing the College of yesterday and today. The Alumni Association also has a Young Alumni Representative on the Alumni Association Executive (AAE) as a voice for its newest members. CLASS REPRESENTATIVES The Tradition of Class Representatives The selection of Class Representatives for the graduating class is an honoured tradition at HSC. The Alumni Office currently has information on Class Representatives from 1949 forward. Individuals who accept this role are responsible to their class and the College to maintain the link between their fellow alumni and Hillfield Strathallan College. HSC Class Representatives Class Representatives are selected from Senior School students in their graduating year. They are nominated by their peers as outlined in the process below. Class events and correspondences will be dependent on the ideas and creativity of the Class Representatives chosen. As such, the Alumni Association recommends that a minimum of two class representatives be selected, with a maximum of four. Role and Responsibilities Class Representatives will be the voice of motivation and enthusiasm for all alumni events. They will be responsible along with the Alumni Advancement Manager for the organization of any casual and/or milestone reunions involving their graduating year. Events such as the HSC Golf Classic and Homecoming require the Class Representative s participation as a role model for their class attendance and participation. Class News HSC stays connected with its graduates though the HSC Review, Alumni E-Newsletters, E-Broadcasts, and social media including Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn. Class Representatives will be requested to help obtain up-to-date personal profiles and good news stories about their class for these publications. Nomination Procedure The online nomination form requires the signature of five fellow classmates who support the nomination. A number of short answer questions are required to be completed by the nominee. A selection committee, as outlined in the Alumni Constitution, will meet to determine the Class Year Representatives selected based on the nomination form and past volunteer performance with HSC. The selected class representatives will be announced at the Family Graduation Dinner by the President of the Alumni Association. To submit an online nomination, please click here. Nomination Deadline: April 28, 2017 3
