He recently resigned as President of the Dni vers.ity of Alabama ~ Tuscaloosa ~ to accept the pas ition in the cabinet of President Gerald Ford. Previous to his servingas President of the University he was Executive Assistant to the President and Assistant Dean of Men. He also taught United States history at the University. Dr. Matthews received the Ph.D. from Teachers College~ Columbia University~ in the History of Education. His master andbaccalaureate degrees were earned at the University of Alabama. Banquet tickets are priced at $lo.oo per person.. However~MSERA members are entitled< to a membership discount that reduces the cost to$7.qo for them; tickets can be purchased by using the. The Louisiana Educational Research Association CLERA) has asked that MSERA consider granting affiliate membership to organizations like LERA. They~further suggested that MSERA would be following a pattern that has been used by LERA, that of serving as an "umbrella" host.to institutional members within their state. The request was considered at the September meeting of the MSERA Board and action deferred until the General Session meeting on Wednesday night, November 12 during the annual convention. A related question was presented lastyear regarding an affiliation with the Florida Educational Research Association but the arrangements were never consummated. The Holiday Inn, Downtown, Jackson, Mississippi, site of the Fourth Annual Meeting of MSERA, has reserved 100 rooms for members and guests. The rates are $19.00 for a single and $26.00 for double accommodations. Reservation postal cards are riot available but the card below can be clipped and mailed in. Reservations should be made at the inn fourtean days before the convention. The inn is providing. meeting rooms, a hospitality room, and an exhibitor's area for program activities.
Present and past members of MSERA are urged t-orenew their membership for 1975-76 either bysending in the card below with a check or at the registration booth at the Holiday Inn, Downtown, Jackson, Mississippi during the annual meeting, November 12-14, 1975. Dues support the activities of the annual meeting of the association and the publication of the MSERA Newsletter. Members of the Board of Directors receive no stipends, per diem allowances, or travel reimbursements for attending meetings held periodically between annual meetings. -, MSERA membership is effective from one annual meeting to the next~' Dues' are $5.00 per year for all but students who pay $3.00. Will you help your volunteer officers meet budget requirements by renewing now or during the annual meeting. Style Show and Luncheon, the Plantation Room, Holiday Inn, Downtown, 12 noon, Wednesday. Nodels from the.carriage House will present an array of women's casual fall fashions. Lunch will be ordered from the menu. No reservations are required. Governor's Mansion Tour, 2:00 p.m., Wednesday leaving from the Holiday Inn. The mansion, occupied since 1842 by Mississippi governors, has recently been renovated at a cost beyond one million dollars. The building and grounds cover an entire block in downtown Jackson.
