Both are now 4-1 in league competition with Utah s loss coming at the hands of the Bruins, and UCLA s coming in the form of an upset by CALIFORNIA. Both teams lead the Pac-12 in two events: Utah leads on the vault and the bars, and UCLA leads on the beam and the floor. The three teams sitting at 3-2 in Pac-12 competition are all also highly competitive. No. 12 STANFORD boasts one of the best all-arounders in the nation in Elizabeth Price, No. 14 CALIFORNIA is ranked in the top-10 on both the floor and the vault, and No. 17 OREGON STATE is home to the second-highest ranked all-arounder in the Pac-12 in Madeline Gardiner. The last weekend of regular season Pac-12 vs. Pac-12 competition should be interesting as, for the third week in a row, two top-20 match-ups get underway. No. 5 UTAH will travel to No. 14 CALIFORNIA and No. 12 STANFORD will take on No. 17 OREGON STATE. All signs point to a thrilling Pac-12 Championship March 19 in Seattle. Liz Beadle... lbeadle@pac-12.org... 415-549-2858 UTAH VOTED PRESEASON FAVORITE IN PAC-12 COACHES POLL SAN FRANCISCO In a poll taken by the Conference s eight women s gymnastics, UTAH was voted the preseason favorite to win the 2016 Pac-12 regular season, the Conference announced today. Utah received 49 points and six first-place votes. The Utes were also voted fourth in the national preseason coaches poll where they received 14 first-place votes. Utah holds the top spot in the preseason Pac-12 coaches poll for the second year in a row after UCLA had dominated the No. 1 spot for three years before that. This season, Utah will be looking to capture its third Pac-12 championship in a row, following their back-to-back championship seasons in 2014 and 2015. UCLA came in second in the Pac-12 poll, tallying 41 points. Additionally, the Bruins are ranked sixth in the national preseason coaches poll. STANFORD sits in third place in the Pac-12 with 39 2016 Pac-12 Women s points in the poll, and received one first-place vote. The Gymnastics Poll Cardinal are one of three Pac-12 squads ranked in the national top ten, coming in at No. 8. OREGON STATE came in fourth place in the Pac-12 coaches poll with 30 points. WOMEN S GYMNASTICS ON PAC-12 NETWORKS Pac-12 Networks began its fourth season of women s gymnastics coverage on Friday, January 8. Pac-12 Networks will air 26 women s gymnastics meets, five more than last season. Each Pac-12 program will appear on the Networks at least four times: Arizona (6), Arizona State (5), California (5), Oregon State (7), Stanford (4), UCLA (10), Utah (9) and Washington (5). Both sessions of the 2016 Pac-12 Women s Gymnastics Championships will also be part of the Networks telecast schedule on Saturday, March 19 from Alaska Airlines Arena in Seattle. Returning broadcasters this year include: play-by-play experts Jim Watson and Brian Webber, in addition to analyst Amanda Borden, a former American Gymnast and U.S. Gold Medalist from the 1996 summer U.S. Olympic team. New to the Networks this year are: former Utah women s gymnastics head coach Greg Marsden and Olympians Samantha Peszek and Alicia Sacramone Quinn. The Pac-12 Networks consists of one national and six regional networks devoted solely to the Pac-12. In addition to the hundreds of live televised Pac-12 sporting events, Pac-12 Networks subscribers will have access to Pac-12 Now, the TV Everywhere platform, which provides access to all Pac-12 Networks programming on any device through their broadband service. Credential requests are due by March 16. The event will take place at Alaska Airlines Arena in Seattle with session 1 starting at 1 p.m. PT and session 2 starting at 6 p.m. PT. The event will be televised live by Pac-12 Networks. More high level non-conference competition ahead: This coming weekend will be the last of Conference competition in 2016. After that, Pac-12 teams will resume taking on some of the toughest competition from outside the conference including No. 1 Oklahoma, No.4 Michigan, No. 7 LSU, No. 8 Auburn, and No. 10 Georgia. Oregon State shines: After an impressive 196-850- 195.350 win over CALIFORNIA, the Beavers are proving to be true contenders. Both Madeline Gardiner and Mary Jacobsen took home Pac-12 weekly honors this week. Gardiner currently ranks 13th in the nation in both the all-around and on the beam. The well-rounded Beavers are ranked in the top 20 in every event: No. 15 on vault, No. 17 on bars, No. 12 on beam, and No. 19 on floor Elizabeth Price ranking high: STANFORD s Price has led the Pac-12 in the all-around for most of the 2016 season and is currently fourth nationally. She is also ranked in the top 20 in three of four events: she is No. 6 on the vault, No. 18 on the bars, and No. 15 on the floor. Switch to RQS: This week, rankings switched from being based on all-around average to being based on regional qualifying score. Utah PAC-12 ANNOUNCES WEEKLY GYMNASTICS HONORS Today the Pac-12 Conference announced the Pac-12 women s gymnastics weekly honors for the week of Feb. 17-22. OREGON STATE s Madeline Gardiner was named the Gymnast of the Week, UCLA s Sadiqua Bynum was voted Specialist of the Week, and OREGON STATE s Mary Jacobsen was named the Freshman/ Newcomer of the Week. OREGON STATE junior Madeline Gardiner earned Gymnast of the Week honors for the first time since March of 2015 after leading the No. 17 Beavers to a win over No. 14 CALIFORNIA and a season-high team all-around score. Gardiner set a career-best in the all-around (39.475), tied her career-best on the balance beam (9.925) and scored a season-high on the floor exercise (9.900). She recorded event titles on the floor exercise and in the all-around. In addition, as a team, the Beavers established season-highs on the bars and beam and tied their high on the floor. Gardiner is the 13th-ranked all-arounder in the na-tion, and the second-highest ranked all-arounder in the Pac-12. UCLA senior Sadiqua Bynum earned Specialist of the Week honors this week, making it three Specialist of the Week honors in a row for UCLA from three different gymnasts. Bynum won both events that she competed on Sunday to help UCLA record a 196.675-196.450 victory at WASHINGTON. Bynum tied her season-high on vault score with a 9.875 and helped the Bruins take the lead over the Huskies after scor-ing 9.95 on floor exercise. Bynum s 9.95 score on floor was her fourth score of 9.95 or higher this season, and she moved into the top spot in the national rankings on floor with a RQS of 9.935. Bynum now has a team-high 4 event titles and also leads the team with 6 scores of 9.9 or higher and 4 scores of 9.95 or higher. OREGON STATE freshman Mary Jacobsen earned Freshman / Newcomer of the Week honors for the first time this week. Jacobsen reached career-highs on both events she competed in and helped No. 17 ORE-GON STATE get the win over No. 14 CALIFORNIA. Jacobsen opened the meet scoring 9.825 on the vault to tie her personal record.
