OCIAL WARENESS OLUNTEERING CTIVITIES Long term EVS WHERE? In Slavonski Brod, Croatia WHEN? From June 1st, 2018 until June 1st, 2019 (+ 2 travelling days) ABOUT THE CITY Slavonski Brod is the sixth largest city in Croatia with a bit less than 60,000 habitans. The city is small, but beautiful. It is situated next to the river Sava where you can relax on our peaceful promenade Kej. In your free time, you will have the opportunity to explore our ancient fortress constructed during the Austro-Hungarian Empire. The city is enriched by a Franciscan monastery which is built in baroque style. Our main square Korzo is also home to numerous cultural events and has a perfect view of the beautiful Sava river. The square also houses galleries, book stores, cafes, night clubs, shops etc., which make it a perfect place for entertainment. WEATHER The weather in Slavonia often varies due to the continental climate. During summer temperatures go really high with an average of 30 C. And from September (average high is 18 C) to March you can expect everything; one day can be warm and sunny, and the next really rainy. Also, you should prepare for snow, and cold days (to -10 C) and winter atmosphere but usually it doesn't last for long. LEISURE TIME In Slavonski Brod you have the opportunity to practise sports, swim, walk around, go to cinema, enjoy theatre plays, go shopping, hang out and go to cafes, bars, clubs and parties. 1

PEOPLE Slavonski Brod is a town which offers a safe environment. It is not facing serious criminality and even the robberies are not common. Actually, it is a peaceful environment and you will not face any serious danger if you take basic safety precautions. People are generally very helpful and have a strong sense of hospitality. Most people speak English pretty well so you won't be facing a lot of communication problems. ABOUT THE PROJECT Social Awareness Volunteering Activities (SAVA) is an European Voluntary Service programme aiming to promote active participation and volunteering, along with the development of solid and meaningful partnerships and collaborations among civil society organizations, public institutions and individuals for the creation and implementation of common activities that benefit the community. The idea behind the implementation of this project stems from the recognition of the need to promote volunteering and the involvement of young people in society, and to support the city structures which seek to develop their creativity, access to culture, personal and professional development opportunities, active participation and social inclusion. ACCOMODATION The volunteer will be hosted in the city center of Slavonski Brod in a flat with all facilities. The flat will be shared with another volunteer. The hosting organization has chosen an apartment in a building which meets all safety criteria and all the equipment of the apartment meets the E.U. safety rules. For food, the volunteers will receive an extra allowance, with which they will have the responsibility to make their own arrangements. The kitchen in the apartment is fully equipped and it is also close to a supermarket where volunteers can buy food.
