Dear School for Kicking and Punting Camp Attendee: Thank-you for your application and check for for the 2011 kicking, punting, and snapping camp at Appalachian State University. Now in the eighteenth year of operation, this instruction program will attract kickers, punters, and snappers from Alabama and Georgia, as well as from the Carolinas, Tennessee, and Virginia. Expect to enjoy your stay on the Boone, N.C., campus and to improve your kicking, punting, and snapping skills. Enclosed with this letter are the following items: 1. General Information Sheet 2. Policies for Camper Behavior 3. Map of the Appalachian State University Campus in Boone 4. Medical Statement/Parent Consent Statement/Insurance Statement The first three items contain information to help you and your family prepare for camp. The last sheet should be completed and returned to the School for Kicking and Punting Instruction (P. O. Box 48207, Athens, GA 30604) at least one week prior to camp or submitted at registration.. No camper will be allowed to register on June 29 without this information. (You may attach a photocopy of a 2011 school physical, instead of getting a doctor s signature.) Since emphasis is placed on individualized instruction, be prepared to describe your strengths and weaknesses to your group counselor. Establish goals for camp and for the 2011 football season. Your coaches or parents are encouraged to send comments or requests. High school coaches are welcome at all practices, and time will be set aside for coaches to talk with the camp staff. Kickers and punters will be expected to assist one another by serving as snappers and holders. Another great benefit of camp is learning to critique one another so that you can teach someone to observe you objectively when you practice at home. Remember to stretch daily during May and June so that you will be ready to benefit from camp. Parents are encouraged to attend practices and demonstration sessions. (Complete camp schedules will be distributed at registration on Wednesday.) Special instruction can be provided for parents and coaches who wish to learn to assist with practices once players return home. At the Friday night meeting, guidelines will be presented for preparing kickers, punters, and snappers for college selection and recruiting. Video cameras are welcome during all meetings and from the sidelines at all practices. Although the camp cannot accommodate parents with meals or lodging, many services are available in close proximity to the Appalachian State campus. Parents interested in accommodations in the Boone area during the days of the camp may contact the ASU Office of Conferences and Institutes at 828-262-3045 for further information. Remember that numerous July 4 th celebrations will attract tourists to the mountains!

Congratulations to each of you who met or exceeded your 2010 goals! Since a file is maintained for each camper, mailing newspaper clippings and short notes to the camp address throughout the year helps me keep up with your accomplishments. Rising juniors and seniors should mail me copies of the resumes and cover letters they send to colleges. In addition, I need your help with football news from your state. In August, I need copies of newspaper preseason regional surveys of high school and college football teams. In December, I need play-off news and lists of all-county, all-region, and all-state selections. In February, I need information about seniors who commit to college football teams. Since I do not surf the internet, I really appreciate your efforts to keep me informed. I am constantly adding new material to my website at www.kick-aid.com. You may post advice to others, as well as retrieve forms and articles. Staff members (all current college or professional placekickers, punters, and snappers) are chosen for their commitment to provide help to aspiring younger athletes. They receive training in teaching techniques prior to each camp. Moreover, they participate in the administration of the camp, so they share in the determination to maintain the level of excellence which makes the camp a success. Group sizes are kept small to maximize camper-counselor contact and to increase the number of quality repetitions each camper gets at each practice. Although some activities are competitive, the emphasis is on experiencing realistic game situations (without pads or a live rush). Everyone on the staff was a camper at one time. Since this camp is run independent of any college football program and employs no college coaches, players who will be college freshmen may attend. A special program has been designed to assist them with transition to the college game. The presence of these talented older players will further benefit the campers with years of high school eligibility remaining. A few words about the Appalachian State facilities are in order. Our camp will be housed in Justice Hall near the stadium. The ground floor of each dorm includes a large lobby with television and vending machines and a laundry. Elevators serve the other floors. Campers will be housed two to a room, by roommate requests or by age level. Bathroom facilities are down the hall, so plan what to wear around the building. The university does not provide telephones in the rooms, but you may bring phones to connect to the lines. You are responsible for damages incurred and for lost keys ($30) before you leave campus. Owens Field House, including the old football team meeting rooms and sports medicine facilities, spans the north end of Kidd Brewer Stadium. The camp has some use of the field house and full access to the artificial surface in the stadium. Parents can enjoy watching camp from the stands or on the track. We will not go swimming. Meals at River Street Cafe are allyou-can-eat. Friday night we are served a cook-out in the stadium. When you arrive, we will ask how many people from your family wish to join us for dinner at a cost of $8 each. Boone is high in the mountains, with cool nights and beautiful views. What a great place for a camp! If you have any questions, please feel free to call me in Athens at 706-549-2695. I am rarely home before 10 P.M.; however, the answering machine is always ready to take your messages. I truly look forward to working with you and your parents (and coaches) this summer. Thank-you for choosing to attend this camp. Sincerely, www.kick-aid.com Carol A. White, Camp Director
