TI N ROS E BOWL E Week 9 October 26-28 The Granddaddy Of Them All January 1, 2018 1pm PT
Games of the Week Sat., Oct. 28, 12:30 pm PT, FOX One year ago, Penn State nearly derailed Ohio State s College Football Playoff quest when the Nittany Lions used a blocked kick return for a touchdown to defeat the Buckeyes. The script has been flipped this year as No. 2 Penn State is the higher-ranked team and must travel to a hostile environment to play the Buckeyes. Ohio State has rebounded from an early season loss to score at least 54 points in the last four games. The Nittany Lions will try to shut down the potent Buckeye offense with their top-ranked defense that allows only 9.6 points per game. Penn State can also score plenty of points, but the biggest factor in this game will be the Buckeyes defensive line matching up with the Penn State offensive line. Ohio State has one of the top defensive fronts in the country and if they can shut down PSU s Saquon Barkley and get pressure on Trace McSorley, they might have a chance to upset the Nittany Lions. Washington State at Arizona Sat., Oct. 28, 6:30 pm PT, Pac-12 Network If you like offense, this is the game for you. Washington State is led by a veteran gunslinger in senior Luke Falk, who owns the Pac-12 record for total offense, completions, and attempts, and is second in conference history in passing touchdowns and yards. Under center for Arizona is a firsttime starter, sophomore Khalil Tate, who has been named Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Week each of the last three weeks. Tate has tallied 694 rushing yards, 468 passing yards and 11 touchdowns over the last three games. The last player to win three OPOTW awards in a year was Falk, who did so in 2015 over a nine-week stretch. Tate may be the most exciting player in the Pac-12, but Washington State will be the toughest defense he has had to face. Either way, expect 40-plus points for each team in this one. NC State at Notre Dame Sat., Oct. 28, 12:30 pm PT, NBC A year ago, both of these teams had coaches on the hot seat. Now, its the No. 14/15 Wolfpack visiting the No. 9/10 Irish. NC State s strength is its balance on offense, along with a stout run defense. Notre Dame relies on a strong rushing offense with quarterback Brandon Wimbush and running back Josh Adams. The Wolfpack have a top-10 NFL Draft prospect on defense in Bradley Chubb, who already has 14 tackles for loss and 6.5 sacks on the year, a couple do-everything players on offense in Jaylen Samuels and Nyheim Hines. Notre Dame hasn t allowed an opponent to score more than 20 points this season and won their last five games by 20 or more points, but if NC State can keep the Irish running attack in check, the Wolfpack could steal a win in South Bend. Players of the Week: Week 8 Luke Falk, QB Washington State On a cold and rainy night in Pullman, Wash., Falk threw three touchdown passes to lead the Cougars to a 28-0 victory over Colorado. In the process, Falk set the Pac-12 career record for total offense (13,041 yards) and pass attempts (1,860). The senior needs just 197 yards to set the Pac-12 record for career passing yards. Trace McSorley, QB Penn State McSorley was responsible for four touchdowns, three rushing and one passing, in Penn State s 42-13 win over Michigan. With 358 yards of total offense, McSorley became the fifth Nittany Lion with 6,000 career yards of total offense. The junior quarterback has also thrown a touchdown in 22 straight games, the second longest streak in the nation.

Michigan College Football Playoff First poll available on October 31. One week after chaos, college football re-established balance. The only major movement in the polls were USC and Michigan dropping after losses, while Notre Dame surged up the into the top-10. The Wolverines dropped completely out of the AP Poll, leaving the Big Ten with four teams ranked by the media, and five teams in the USA TODAY Poll as Michigan held on at No. 25. The Pac-12 continues to have four ranked teams in both polls. Iowa State is the only team that is new to the rankings this week as the Cyclones check-in at No. 25 in the AP Poll. It marks the first time ISU has been ranked since 2005. The Associated Press Poll is made up of a panel of 61 sports writers and broadcasters from around the country. The USA Today Poll is also known as the Coaches Poll and is selected by the Amway Board of Coaches, made up of 64 head coaches at Bowl Subdivision schools. All are members of the American Football Coaches Association. The College Football Playoff rankings are selected by a 13-person committee of current athletic directors, former college football coaches, a University President, a former NCAA executive, and a current media member. The committee will issue its first rankings Tuesday, October 31, with subsequent rankings taking place the next five weeks.
