Inkspot August 2010 GREETINGS FROM THE PRESIDENT July was the time of year that we slowed down the Section's outward activities. Now that August is here. There is much preparation and much gearing up for future activities that are important in Bay Section. For one, our annual Awards Program is under way. Award packets were available from CWEA on July 1. Your Bay Section Awards Committee is working hard to ensure this year's program is a success. Please look for information on our awards program on our website and in future newsletters. We have an established tradition, the annual Committee Appreciation Luncheon, held on July 22 at McCovey s Restaurant in Walnut Creek. Here s the real truth it s the committees that do the work and make the San Francisco Bay Section vital. The real work of CWEA is done at the committee levelyour efforts are what make this organization so successful. The SFBS committees are as diverse as the members and disciplines they serve. From the formats used to train, to the material they train with, the committees are fulfilling the mission of the Bay Section and the CWEA. On behalf of the Board, I want to thank all of the volunteers for your hard work and dedication that makes our section so successful. The annual Golf Tournament and Dinner hosted by the Collection System Committee was held on July 23rd at the Monarch Bay Golf Club. This event is looking like it may become a tradition, the RES/SFBS baseball game. The Giants - Dodgers game and tailgate will be held July 31st at AT&T Park. All 75 tickets have been sold from the Redwood Empire and Bay Sections. Thanks to Barry Pomeroy and Mike Foster for organizing the event. Our dinner meetings resume this month at Zio Fraedo s in Pleasant Hill; please see the flyer for details. I hope to see you there. Finally, August 30th is the deadline for submitting abstracts for the 2010 CWEA Annual Conference. If you are interested in presenting a paper in Ontario, you can find the Call for Abstracts on both the CWEA and the Bay Section web sites. 2010 NRTC will be Sept 15-17, in Modesto. Registration is open.
