MEET OUR NEW MEMBERS Jeremy and Lynn Jackman are transferring their membership from the First United Methodist Church in Carlinville, IL. They have been attending FUMC for five years. They are the parents of Gracie and Lane. Gracie is a Sixth grader and Lane is in Fifth grade at Ina Grade School. Lynn is employed at Cycle 1 Studio in Benton, IL. where she teaches spinning and TRX suspension training classes. Jeremy Jackman is employed at US Department of Agriculture as a District Conservationist for Jefferson County. Arlen and Evelyn Lash are transferring their membership from the Wesley United Methodist Church in Mt. Vernon. Arlen and Evelyn have lived in Mt. Vernon over 50 years. They are originally from the Shelbyville, Il area. They have four grown children that live in Missouri, Decatur and Libertyville. They have eight grandchildren. Debbie Blankenship and Emily Cockrum, are transferring their memberships from the Arlington United Methodist Church in Bridgeton, Mo. Debbie grew up in Mt. Vernon, her parents are DeeWayne and Barbara Murphy. She has been married to Mike Blankenship for two years. Debbie has two children, Mike has four and they have one granddaughter, Meilah, and another one is on the way. Debbie works as a geologist for AMEC Foster Wheeler Company. Emily Cockrum, her daughter, is currently a senior at University of Mississippi, (Ole Miss) in Oxford. She is majoring in Exercise Science and will graduate in May. Emily plans to attend graduate school in the near future and obtain a degree in Physical Therapy. Dylan and Kayla Stanek are transferring their membership from the First Baptist Church of Brandenburg, Kentucky, where Dylan was the minister to youth and children. Dylan grew up in Highland, Illinois. Kayla is a native of Plainfield, Indiana. Dylan is currently our new Director of Student Ministries. Dylan is also a member of our Praise Band. Kayla is an Independent Sales Director with Mary Kay Cosmetics. Tim Halbin is our very talented contemporary worship leader. He grew up in Marion, Illinois, and currently lives in Bluford. He is transferring from another denomination. Growing up he played in several Christian bands in Southern Illinois. Recently he has played lead guitar and sung at several other churches in Mt. Vernon. Tim owns and operates Direct to You Publications, a direct mail newspaper that serves our local area.

For Mother s Day this year, you have the opportunity to honor, or memorialize, your mother, grandmother or any woman who has played a special role in your life. For your contribution, of any amount, the name of your loved one will be listed in our bulletin insert and donations will help furnish the newly remodeled Children's Area. While you are attending a church service you may fill out the back of the blue attendance slip. During the week you can call the church office at 242-1030 with your information and the amount of your donation. WEDNESDAY, MAY 13 6:00 pm Bryan Dycus Hall Everyone is invited to attend the annual church-wide New Member Potluck on Wednesday, May 13, 6:00 pm, in Bryan Dycus Hall. Tim Halbin, a new member and our Contemporary Praise Leader, will provide the entertainment. Church members are asked to bring a salad, vegetable, or a dessert. Fried chicken, drinks, and table service will be furnished. Reservations sign-up sheet is in the Welcome Center or you may call the church office at 242-1030. PIONEERS For those over 50 or retired Wednesday, May 27, 2015 12:00 NOON Bryan Dycus Hall Menu: Fried Chicken, Potato Salad, Baked Beans, Slaw, Rolls, Dessert and Drink. Arrangements are being made for our program to be Don Davis speaking about the Honor Wall and the Military Museum which are located at our Municipal Airport. Mr. Davis has a very interesting background and knowledge about the past. We hope many will be able to attend. P A G E 4

The Evelyn E. Eckert Scholarship provides scholarships for non-vocational post high school education for students whose parents are members of the First United Methodist Church in Mt. Vernon, Illinois. The exact award amount each year is determined by the Board of Trustees and is determined by dividing available funds among all eligible applicants, up to a maximum of $2,000 per applicant. This amount will be paid during the Fall and Spring semesters each year. Applications are available in the church office and will also soon be found on the website. The return deadline is June 1st, late applications will not be accepted. GRADUATE RECOGNITION BREAKFAST Sunday, May 17, 2015 9:45 am Bryan Dycus Hall Do you have an 8th Grade, High School or College graduate in your family this year?
