ELEMENTARY GOALS AT STAFFORD MSD, STUDENTS BEGIN THINKING ABOUT COLLEGE & CAREER GOALS VERY EARLY!

STAFFORD ALUMNI UPDATE Stafford Police Officer Garza, a 2000 Stafford High School graduate, grew up in Stafford when "it was a little country town." After working in the private sector for many years, he decided to give back to the community where he grew up... He is proud to serve with the Stafford Police Department.

CULINARY ARTS TO PARTICIPATE IN CLASSIC CHEVROLET CHILI COOKOFF The Stafford Culinary Arts Program will participate in the Classic Chevrolet Chili Cookoff from 4-8 p.m. on Saturday, October 13 at the Classic Dealership, on the corner of U.S. 59 and U.S. 90-A.

2018 STATE OF SCHOOLS EVENT Stafford MSD Superintendent Dr. Robert Bostic had the opportunity to share the great news of SMSD student and staff achievement, as well as the District's vision and goals before 500+ people at the Fort Bend Chamber of Commerce State of Schools Event on Wednesday afternoon. A big "Thank You" to the Stafford High Choir for performing the National Anthem at the event.

COACH SAVANAH NAMED HOUSTON TEXANS HIGH SCHOOL COACH OF THE WEEK Congratulations Stafford Athletic Director/Head Football Coach Ken Savanah, who was named the Houston Texans Coach of the Week. Coach Savanah was nominated by the Stafford Cobras Youth Football Program....The Texans honor one coach every week. The organization will officially recognize Coach Ken Savanah today and present him with a $2,500 grant for the SHS Football Program. At the end of the season, the Texans will select a High School Coach of the Year and award that coach's program an additional $5,000 grant. Prior to his time at Stafford, Coach Savanah was the longtime defensive coordinator at Strake Jesuit in Houston. A Houston native, Coach Savanah played football at Texas Southern University.

STAFFORD BAND COMPETES AT LCISD The Stafford High Marching Ban competed Saturday at the Lamar Marching Contest on Saturday. The Mighty Spartan Band placed sixth overall besting several 5A and 6A programs. The Stafford band made a first division and received best drum majors and best soloist awards. It was a great day for the Mighty Spartan Band program!...the next competition will be on Saturday, Oct. 13 in Edna.

TASB PRESENTATION ON FRIDAY, STAFFORD MSD BOARD VICE PRESIDENT XAVIER HERRERA BECAME THE FIRST SMSD TRUSTEE IN MORE THAN 25 YEARS TO PRESENT IN FRONT OF MORE THAN 300 PEOPLE. THE PRESENTATION TOOK PLACE AT THE LEADERSHIP TEXAS ASSOCIATION OF SCHOOL BOARDS (TASB) CONFERENCE IN AUSTIN.

STAFFORD NATIONAL NIGHT OUT National Night Out Stafford 2018 was a great success! Thank you to everyone who attended these events throughout Stafford!

STAFFORD DADS CLUB Stafford MSD Board President Christopher Caldwell Stafford Elementary Assistant Principal Jeffery Williams, and Stafford City Council Member Don Jones organized the first meeting of the new Stafford Elementary School Dads Club last week. Jones, a former Principal in Stafford MSD, had a Dads Club during his time with the District. Caldwell has helped create one at the secondary level. The group is being revived to help SMSD fathers become more involved in the District....If you're interested in joining, e-mail Mr. Williams at jwilliams@staffordmsd.org

#THEGRID THE FUTURE OF STAFFORD The Stafford Municipal School District was proud to be part of the groundbreaking ceremony for "The Grid," a new 192-acre multi-purpose development located at Interstate 69/U.S. Highway 59 & Airport Road at the former Texas Instruments property. It will include the first In-N-Out Burger location in the Houston area, and a Pluckers restaurant, along with hotels, parks and much more. Several different governmental entities worked very hard to make this project a reality. Stafford MSD Superintendent Dr. Robert Bostic, Stafford MSD Trustee Auturo Jackson and Stafford MSD Chief Financial Officer Daniel Flores had a chance to be part of the ceremony. SMSD STUDENTS COMPETE IN FORT BEND FAIR Stafford FFA students showed animals in the Fort Bend Fair earlier this week, including pigs, lambs and steers.

STAFFORD COLLEGE FAIR Stafford MSD hosted a College Fair on Tuesday afternoon, and more than 40 colleges and universities were represented -- including several Texas Universities as well as Harvard, Alabama, Kansas State, Portland State and more.

THANK YOU, OFFICER PERRY Last week was our bye week for Football & Volleyball. When the football team is playing, we always look forward to seeing Officer Perry on the sidelines. She is a former Stafford MSD student who now serves as a School Resource Officer... She's always there for the Spartans, whether the game is in Stafford or out of town.

STAFFORD KICKSTART PROGRAM CONGRATULATION TO STAFFORD KICKSTART KIDS INSTRUCTOR MASTER ROMMEL GARGOLES AND STUDENTS IVAN GONZALEZ, JOSHUA SERVELLON AND MIGUEL AVELLANEDA WHO ALL RECENTLY COMPETED AT THE 2018 WKU NATIONALS AND USA TEAM TRIALS IN EVANSVILLE, INDIANA. ALL FOUR WON THEIR RESPECTIVE DIVISIONS AND EARNED SPOTS ON THE 2018 US NATIONAL KARATE TEAM THAT WILL BE COMPETING IN ATHENS, GREECE AT THIS YEAR S WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS AT THE END OF OCTOBER.

STUDENTS AGAINST BREAST CANCER EVENT OCTOBER 13 Stafford MSD Board Vice President Xavier Herrera made a $100 donation to the inaugural Students Against Breast Cancer 5k Walk/Run Event, which will take place next Saturday (October 13) at the Stafford Athletic Complex.

STAFFORD MSD ALUMNI UPDATE CONGRATULATIONS TO 2018 STAFFORD HIGH GRADUATE ALLIYAH WILLIAMS, WHO IS PLAYING FOR THE KENTUCKY STATE UNIVERSITY VOLLEYBALL TEAM AS A TRUE FRESHMAN. WE WISH WILLIAMS THE BEST OF LUCK THIS WEEKEND IN A TOURNAMENT IN ALBANY, GEORGIA.

CROSS COUNTRY TO COMPETE AT DISTRICT The Stafford High Cross Country Team competed at the HBU Meet on Thursday. The Spartans will compete at the District Meet on Wednesday in Brookshire.

STAFFORD MSD ALUMNI UPDATE Bethany College junior defensive lineman Elton Woodard, a 2016 Stafford High graduate, has had a strong season for Bethany. He s studying Business Management. Texas A&M sophomore wide receiver Hezekiah Jones, a 2017 Stafford High graduate, caught a career-high four passes for 33 yards in a 24-17 win over Arkansas last Saturday.
