Commander March 1, 2019 General Orders # 92018 2019 Series, published monthly by the VFW Department of Idaho To be read at regular Post meetings and placed in file for future reference. 1 Information about the 87th Idaho State VFW Convention is included with these General Orders. Get your reservations early and join us for some fun on June 16-19th at the Red Lion Hotel in Lewiston. After the winter we are experiencing, I would hope a lot of members would like to see Idaho s only Sea Port. The hotel rates are good for three (3) days before and after the convention just in case you want to enjoy some of the area activities. 2. District Elections will be happening soon. District Commanders; please be advised that the voting strength for your District Convention is defined in Sec. 222 and 421 of the National Bylaws. Not everyone in attendance may be entitled to vote. Each Post gets one (1) delegate for every 30 members in good standing. Each Post with less than 30 members gets one (1) vote. Please ensure you understand this section thoroughly. If you have any questions about the voting strength of your Post, contact PSC John Crotinger. 3. 17 of the 49 Posts in Idaho are at or above 100% in membership. There are 7 Post s that need 5 or less members to achieve 100% and 2 of those only need 1. Congratulations to the Post Commanders and their membership teams that have achieved the 100% goal. Post Commanders and your membership team should be working on your unpaid members. The next GOAL for the Department is to be 97% (or above) by April 1 st. 4. IAW Sec. 218 of the Manual of Procedure, The Adjutant shall maintain a copy of the original application of every member admitted to the Post. This shall include any member who transfers from another Post. 5. Post Officer nominations will open in March and elections will be held in April. Just a reminder, Posts need only elect the following positions IAW Sec. 217 of the Manual of Procedure: a. Commander b. Sr. Vice Commander c. Jr. Vice Commander d. Quartermaster e. Chaplain f. Trustee(s). Post Commanders, it would be a good idea to read this section prior to the start of nominations. 6. Student Veterans of America: If your Post has had any interaction with the SVA, please report the details to Gary Klett at idahorevbob@gmail.com and Dept. Headquarters so we can track them. This is one of the requirements for becoming an All-American Department. 7. Department All American requirement: Last year the VFW lost over 200 Posts across the Nation. This year one of the requirements for ALL Departments to make All American is to start at least one NEW POST. The Department is currently working to start an additional Post in Pocatello and one in Melba.

8. The All State Matrix has been included in these General Orders and will continue through the June General Orders. You can also access the All State Matrix at the Department website at vfwidaho.org. 9. I wish to thank all members of the Idaho Veterans of Foreign Wars that contribute to making us a successful and strong organization. You know if you have contributed or not. It s not the price you paid to become a member. It s the price you paid to become eligible. We ve Got Your 6 By order of the Commander Attested to: Adjutant/Quartermaster March 1, 2019 1. Adjutant/Quartermaster Tom Black Comrades, Posts listed as missing/late audits are missing at least the audit through 31 DEC 18, due by 31 JAN. A big thank you is due to Commander Davis for his focus and leadership as well as Membership Chairman Croner for his unrelenting training and recruiting efforts, we would not be where we are without them. March is also a good time to order buddy poppies so that you receive them on time. The order form is included with these General Orders. COMMANDER S CHALLENGE Commander-in-Chief B.J. Lawrence has laid down a challenge to all VFW Posts for the month of March 2019! March weather brings new growth, and this is our opportunity as an organization to cultivate that membership growth in our Posts! For the month of March, the top TEN Posts in each membership Division based on growth will be entered into a drawing for $1,000. We are on track to break the 100% membership mark as an organization, but we still need diligent effort to hit that goal and MAKE IT HAPPEN! At close of business on March 31, 2019, the top ten Posts in each Division that shows the highest growth in their membership percentage for the month (measured from close of business 2/28 through close of business 3/31) will be entered into a drawing (one drawing per Division) for a $1,000 prize to be deposited into the Post Fund. Membership Percentage = (Total / Prior Year) as reflected in MemStats.
