Academic Recognition Governor s Cup Congratulations to students who have participated in the 2014 Governor s Cup Competition. The following students were honored at the District level in January and advanced to the Regional competition in February: Stanley Doerger 1 st Place Mathematics, Marty McDaniel - 3 rd place Mathematics and 4 th place Science, Christian Vennemann 1 st place Social Studies and 3rd place Arts and Humanities, Natalie Jehn, 5 th place Composition, Lillian Frantz 4 th place Language Arts and Gabrielle Bergman 5 th place Language Arts. The following students are advancing to the State Competition in March: Stanley Doerger Mathematics, Christian Vennemann Social Studies and Natalie Jehn Composition. Coaches for the team are Amanda Reed, Mary Beth Livingston, Dan Barth and Katie Miller. 8 th Grade Scholarship Recipients Congratulations to the incoming freshmen students who have received Holy Cross High School academic scholarships for the 2014-15 school year for their achievement in scoring top scores on the HC placement test: Katherine Frantz, Christian Bricking, Isabel Wartenberg, Dominic Hassert and Wesley Schmidt. The remainder of the incoming scholarships will be announced in the coming weeks and letters will be sent to the recipients. GENERAL ITEMS Weather Related Information Snow is still in the forecast. Depending on the outcome, days that will be considered for make-up days should they be necessary, are as follows: Wednesday, April 23, Tuesday, April 22, and Friday, March 21 st. Denim & Diamonds and Fabulous Furs Thanks to all who attended the Denim & Diamonds event on February 1 and the Fabulous Furs event on February 18. Both were very successful and your support is very much appreciated!

Night at the Races Re-Scheduled for Friday, February 28 The re-scheduled Night at the Races will be held on Friday, February 28th from 7:00 pm midnight in the gym. This Boosters fundraiser, in its 28 th year, is smoke-free and is a great way to meet other parents/supporters of Holy Cross. Tickets can be purchased for $15 at the door, which includes 5 drink tickets. Tag Day There will be a tag day tomorrow, Friday, February 28 to benefit The Pointe. There will also be tag days on Friday, March 7 to benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Foundation and one on March 28 to benefit the Art Club. Cost is $1 and regular tag day rules apply. All School Mass The March All-School Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, March 5 th. Scrip Orders Scrip orders are due on Thursday, March 6. Order forms are available at http://www.hchscov.com Delivery will take place the following Tuesday or Wednesday. Please note-there will NOT be a Scrip order in April, so please plan ahead and order in March. The Scrip Coordinator is also the Mulch Sale Coordinator and will be buried in mulch orders and deliveries in April. The next Scrip order deadline will be in mid May. If you need Scrip in between order dates, please contact tinarfeldman@yahoo.com or at 859-291-8588. Fish Fry The Athletic Boosters is sponsoring a weekly fish fry every Friday (except Good Friday) during Lent beginning Friday, March 7 from 5:00 8:00 pm. in the cafeteria. The menu consists of fresh, hand-breaded and baked haddock, shrimp baskets and grilled cheese for kids. Sides include hush puppies, mac and cheese, green beans, cole slaw or french fries and dessert. Drinks are available for purchase. Take-out orders are also available. Faculty Meeting The monthly faculty meeting will be held on Monday, March 10. Dismissal will be at 2:00 p.m. Mulch Sale Orders due March 13 Packets for the sale have been distributed. All are encouraged to participate in this fundraiser. A reminder that all students can earn an out of uniform day by selling 20 bags or more of mulch and turning in the completed order forms by tomorrow, Friday, February 28th. If your child sold mulch last year and has not yet received their mulch packet, it can be picked up in the high school office, and will include their order forms from last year. All orders are due by Thursday, March 13. The cost for mulch is just $4.25 per bag. Mulch will be delivered to homes on the weekends of April 11-13 and 25-27. For additional

Parents Club The Parents Club activity this month is the Teachers Dinner before Report Card Night on March 19. An email will be sent asking for your help in preparing a meal for the teachers between the school day and the Report Card Night. Reconciliation During the Lenten Season, all students will be given the opportunity to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation. As we prepare for Easter, we encourage students to participate fully in this important sacramental experience. Class Rings A representative from Graduate Services will be at school to speak to all sophomore students about ordering class rings on Tuesday, March 11 th. The representative will also be on hand on March 19 th during Report Card Night to speak to parents and take orders. He will return to school on Thursday, March 20 th from 7:30 7:55 a.m. to take additional orders. If you have questions, please call the office at 431-1335. Boosters Meeting The March Booster meeting will be held on Monday, March 17 th at 7:00 p.m. in the Arlinghaus Haus. ACT The ACT will be administered to all junior students on Tuesday, March 18 th during school hours. Report Card Night The third quarter ends on Tuesday, March 11th. Report cards can be picked up at the Report Card Night on Wednesday, March 19 th, from 5:00 7:00 pm. Teachers will be available for conferences in their classrooms during that time. Report cards that are not picked up on the 19 th will be mailed the following day. Junior Bingo The annual Junior Class Bingo will be held on Friday, March 21st in the cafeteria. Tickets are $5 and can be purchased from a junior student or by emailing matt.garrison@hchscov.com. Doors open at 6:30, jitneys are at 7 and the regular bingo will start at 8:00. All Bingo players must be 18 years old. Please support this activity that helps our junior class fund the senior class trip to Washington, D.C. Prom The junior/senior prom will be held on Saturday, April 5 th at The Madison in Covington. Thanks to Student Council who have been working so hard on this event.

2014-15 Registration & Scheduling The scheduling process for the upcoming year will be conducted prior to spring break. Mr. Holtz will present an overview of the scheduling process to the students during the week of March 17. Each student will then complete a Course Request Form that will be used to help design their future schedule. Information will also be sent with report cards on March 19. Between March 24 and April 16 each student will be met with individually to complete a preliminary schedule. The schedule will be created with the use of teacher recommendations and student input. After the meeting, your student will bring home the scheduling form and the students will have ample time to make changes to their elective courses or to meet with teachers with their concerns. We ask that each parent sign this scheduling form and return it to the office with the $200 registration fee as soon as possible to hold your son or daughter s place for the 2014-15 school year. Virtus Info for Volunteers, Coaches & Employees All volunteers, coaches and employees at HCHS must be Virtus compliant and current with the monthly online bulletins. If you have not already done the online bulletin this month, please do so as soon as possible. Phone Numbers and Address Changes Please remember to call the office at 431-1335 to inform them of any phone number or address changes that might occur throughout the school year. Flying Pig Marathon Volunteers The Parent s Club would like to recruit parents and students to work at the Flying Pig Marathon check-in on Saturday, May 3 from 9:00 am 1:00 pm. The work would consist of meeting and greeting participants INDOORS at the Duke Energy Center in Cincinnati. Proceeds from this fundraiser can fund the Parent Club activities for an entire year. Please contact katie.wesseling@hchscov.com or gdayirene@fuse.net for more information or to volunteer. Annual Appeal You should have received information regarding the 2013-14 Annual Appeal. To date, the response has been great. If you did not get a chance to look over the information that was sent, I ask you take the time to do so and consider a gift to this year s Annual Appeal. A pledge envelope is included in the pamphlet that you received or you can donate online through the website hchscov.com. We are counting on your support. Buddy Cards The Parents Club continues to sell LaRosa s Buddy cards. They can be obtained by contacting katie.wesseling@hchscov.com or they can be purchased in the school office.

LaRosa s Buddy Cards sell for $10 and can be used 14 times for buy a large pizza, get a large cheese pizza Free. The offer can be used for dine in or pick up. Amazon on the Website With the introduction of the new website, a link is available for Amazon. If you already shop on line or would like to try it out - Just click on Fundraising Options at the bottom of the home page and it will take you to a page with an Amazon link. All you have to do to support Holy Cross is to use this link and HC will receive a percentage of your purchases. If enough shoppers use this link, Holy Cross can receive up to 7% of purchases! Please spread the word to family, friends and co-workers. This can be a huge fundraiser for Holy Cross.
