HEA 1006 BRIEF OVERVIEW Took effect July 2014 First sweeping revision to Indiana s criminal code in 35 years Purpose to design a proportional sentencing scheme that: Equitable to both offenders and victims Those going to prison will be the most serious offenders and will remain in prison longer Those convicted for less serious offenses will be kept in local jurisdictions and treated by local service providers What does it mean for my County? RECOVERY WORKS Provides funding for those with a felony. The eligibility standard still applies. Only felony offenders are eligible (charged and/or convicted); however we also include those who have prior felony convictions, even if they are currently only charged with misdemeanors.
