MEDWAY COUNCIL ON AGING NOTE FROM THE DIRECTOR The Medway Center welcomes ALL adults from diverse populations residing in and around Medway. We promote shared understanding and respect among our members, staff and volunteers in order to improve the quality of life for all. The Center continues to offer multiple events and programs through the summer, so if you have never been here please stop in! The Lunch program will be happening throughout the summer as well on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Why cook when we want to do it for you? WELCOME BACK JUDI!!! COFFEE AND CONVERSATION WITH MEDWAY SELECTMAN Join us on Tuesday June 12 at 11:30 AM to have coffee and conversation with Selectman John Foresto. Please feel free to come in with questions or just to hear what is happening in town. July 10th: Mary Jane White OUTREACH FOOD STAMPS Medway Senior Center has now become an Outreach Partner with the Department of Transitional Assistance s SNAP program, so you can now go to the Medway Senior Center and apply for Food Stamps right on line. You don t have to be from Medway. Please call for an appointment with an Outreach Worker at 508-533-3210 COMMUNITY CONCERT BAND Monday, June 25th - The Southeastern Massachusetts Community Concert Band will be back to perform at the Center. Concert starts at 6:30 PM, event is FREE but sign up at the Center is required. SENIOR TAX WORK OFF PROGRAM Sign up for the 2018-2019 Tax Work Off will begin June 1, 2018. You need to come in and sign a contract each year, even if you ve been in the program before. All hours for this previous year will end on June 30th 2018, but you may return your forms anytime in July. The Senior Tax-Work Off Program gives residents 60 or older the chance to volunteer your services to the town in order to receive up to $1,000.00 off your tax bill. COOLING CENTER The Center is a designated Cooling Center in the summer. During heat waves the Center will stay open later so people can come here to cool down. BREAKFAST BINGO - MEDWAY COUNTRY MANOR Medway Country Manor will be hosting a Breakfast Bingo at their facility for the seniors on June 13th at 9:00 AM. This event is free but please sign up at the Center. Transportation is available upon request. TRI COUNTY LUNCH Tuesday, June 5th: Stuffed Chicken or Baked Haddock. $9.00 / person ~ Van leaves Center promptly 11:00 AM. If driving self, please be there by 11:20 AM. All sign ups must be in by the Thursday before Tri-County Lunch. This will be the last lunch until Fall. MARK FLANGAN BOOKS Local Medway Author is offering a discount on his books. If you would like to purchase one please let us know and we will sign up. Must have 20 people per book interested for a discount.

We also have a treadmill, bike and upper arm machine available for your use whenever the Center is open and the room is not in use. Stop in for a waiver to be signed before use. BOOK GROUP AT THE SENIOR CENTER Next meeting will be June 28th at 1 PM. The book will be: White Houses by Amy Bloom. This book is available at the Medway Public Library. PAINTING CLASSES We offer watercolor classes on Wednesdays beginning at 2:00PM. These classes are for the beginner to the experienced painter. Five dollars per class, newcomers welcomed! TUESDAY AND THURSDAY CRAFTS Stop by the Craft Room some Tuesday or Thursday at 9:00 to see what the crafters might be working on. Could be anything from painting to sewing. They also make monthly gifts for delivery to Meals on Wheels recipients. New crafters are always welcome! EVENING TAI CHI CLASS This new weekly Tai Chi class for our working members covers the Simplified 24 and 85 yang style forms. It is ideal for those who have practiced these forms in the past and want to continue, or are currently practicing them and want to delve deeper. Qigong warmup and relaxation are included as well. New students looking for a challenge are welcome to attend this class. Taught by Jeanne M. Donnelly, LMHC who has close to 40 years teaching experience. Jeanne also teaches Core Balance, Fall Prevention, Yoga, Qigong and Tae Kwon Do. Tuesday Evenings 6:00-7:15 p.m. Fee is $150 for ten weeks. First time students may try a class for a $15 drop-in fee. KNITTING The knitters meet Mondays and Fridays at 9:30 AM. They are happy to help you if you are new, or bring in your project and work with others. **Due to the construction at Oakland Park please check with The Center before attending these class. TECHNOLOGICAL QUESTION? Do you have a question about your smart phone, IPads, laptop or have any computer question? Help is available at the Center with John Haddad. Please contact the Senior Center to schedule an appointment giving the receptionist 2-3 available days and time slots. Once a date is determined you will be contacted and will meet John at the computer lab in the Center to answer any question(s) you may have. NANCY ACRYLIC ART CLASS This class will start up again in the Fall. Please watch the newsletters for start date. VOLUNTEER DRIVERS NEEDED If you are looking to volunteer, the Center is in need for drivers. Requests come in daily for rides to local doctor appointments and visits to nursing homes. If you volunteer, there is no permanent commitments. We will call you and see if you can do a particular trip, if you can great, if not, that s ok! You can even give us certain days and time you prefer to drive. All volunteers will be CORI before starting. If interested please contact Courtney Riley. Center Library The Library volunteers would like to thank all those who have generously donated books to the Library. It is a wonderful service that many people enjoy. If you would like to donate we are in search of: Large print books. Please look to see if you have any of the Library books and return them so others may enjoy.

We go shopping to Star Market and Roche Brothers on Mondays and Market Basket and Walmart on Wednesdays. Please remember we are a CURB to CURB service. Our drivers are unable to assist you from your home to the Vans. IMPORTANT REMINDER: If you are taking the Van please be ready 15 minutes before pick up time. Please remember if you miss your pick up time, its very difficult for the driver to come back and get you. Thank You Volunteers! Volunteers enhance the Medway Center, and the community. They are our most valuable resource and we would be lost without them all! The volunteer s help at the Front Desk, In the Kitchen, set up for events, run programs, drive people to medical appointments and so much more.
