BACKGROUND & NEEDS Impact Statement The Foundation has embraced a strategy designed to increase awareness and impact on the community. It is providing scholarships to Punta Gorda High School graduates towards their first two years of college, support of the disadvantaged need satisfaction, community initiatives, sponsors high school exchange students both inbound and outbound from the United States as well as other community need satisfaction. Needs Statement 1. Foundation, corporate and individual contributions and grants towards our annual giving cycles will increase our efforts to improve Grade Level Reading. 2. Corporate and individual sponsors for our annual Taste of Punta Gorda (tm), Testimonial Dinner and periodic fundraising events are important for us as we advance our work in the community. 3. The Punta Gorda Rotary Charity and Education Foundation is growing its endowment funds to enable us to grant larger gifts to the community each year. Gifts in any amount from $25 to $250,000 are helpful. Background Statement The Foundation was established as a means of focusing our Rotary Club's charitable giving specifically on the needs or our community and Rotary International humanitarian projects through out the world. Statement from the Board Chair Our Foundation is comprised of members of the Rotary Club of Punta Gorda, founded in 1923. Over these past decades, our membership of committed men and women have demonstrated Rotary's principals of "Service Above Self" in our community and beyond. The professional diversity of our membership has allowed our Club and Foundation to play an important role in charitable giving. Needs have never been greater. Through our fundraising efforts and the support of other committed donors, we hope to increase our impact. Statement from the CEO/Executive Director The Punta Gorda Rotary Charity and Education Foundation, Inc., is a Foundation serving the changing needs of the Greater Punta Gorda community. Commonly referred to as the Punta Gorda Rotary Foundation the Foundation operates as a tax-exempt, not-for-profit agency under the Internal Revenue Code, Section 501 (c) (3). Funds of the Foundation are used to make charitable contributions. The Foundation is a visible community force to support organizations that demonstrate commitment to service above self, help young people through scholarships, assist families in need, improve quality of life, and foster strong partnerships within the greater Punta Gorda region. The Foundation also supports Rotary International Foundation and Rotary District initiatives. The Foundation provides leadership to leverage the Foundation's resources as an expression of service to the Punta Gorda region and commitment for the Rotary Club of Punta Gorda. Governance The Foundation is governed by all volunteer Trustees who are elected by the general membership of the Rotary Club of Punta Gorda. There are no administrative costs for the Foundation. All members of the Punta Gorda Rotary Club are also members of the Foundation. Proceeds from the Annual Testimonial Dinner along with investment income and donations help support the efforts of the Foundation. Recently the Foundation funded the Adult Exercise Park in Punta Gorda with outdoor adult exercise equipment and The Charlotte Local Education Foundation (CLEF). Contributions this past year were made to the Charlotte County Family YMCA, Rotary Wheelchair Foundation, Charlotte High School Project Graduation, Seminar for Tomorrow's Leaders Conference, New Operation Cooper Street, Big Brothers Big Sisters, AMI Kids Wilderness Program, Sgt. Michael Wilson Fund, Disabled Veterans Assistance Program, Rotary Camp Florida and the Rotary International Polio Plus campaign. In addition, we sponsor the Charlotte High School Career Breakfast Program and the Rotary Dictionary Project providing dictionaries to area elementary students. We are also participating with Rotary District 6960 International Projects and other notable charities. The Foundation grants scholarships 2

to deserving local college bound students. Such scholarships are based upon academic performance, financial need and leadership. Each year the Foundation gives tuition scholarships to students attending Florida South Western State College and Charlotte Technical Center. Over 100 local high school students have received Rotary scholarships. Each year we hold a special Christmas Party for students of the Charlotte Harbor School and we provide Thanksgiving baskets to needy families. Gifts from Rotarians and others are encouraged and greatly appreciated. Through our Testimonial Dinner program we honored Joanne Helphenstene in our salute to a very worthy community citizen, who, we feel, exemplifies the Rotary motto: Service above Self. PROGRAMS Charity and Education Description Our Rotary foundation has initiated a program of partial scholarships for senior Punta Gorda High School for their first two years of college. Over $8,000 per year is provided for the students. The long term success of the scholarship program has been outstanding by assisting many Punta Gorda high school graduates to attend college when they may not have been able to without the scholarships. The scholarships are awarded for two years. The scholarships are awarded based on recommendations of the Punta Gorda High School staff. Since program existence over $120000 in scholarships awarded to over 100 college students. Program success is measured by staff follow by the High School and Rotary. Virtually all scholarship students have attended the second year of college. Program Success Examples Three recent scholarship students have completed their education at a 4 year university. We are confident many more students have successfully completed advanced education in part because of the scholarships provided. 4

Foreign Exchange Student - Inbound and Outbound Description Punta Gorda Rotary Club with funding from the Punta Gorda Rotary Charity and Education Foundation, Punta Gorda Rotary Foundation, sponsors high school students through seniors for a year attending a high school in a foreign country. Further the above also sponsor with the assistance of Rotary International an exchange student at Charlotte High School for a year of study and cultural immersion in our community. Exchange students often maintain correspondence with their host families, school and host Club for many years building understanding, communication and long term good will. All exchanged students are closely monitored, mentored and immersed in our culture. The program is continually monitored and appraised for the health and benefit of the students and community involved as well as the schools they are attending. The program has been highly successful resulting in an in depth cultural learning experience impossible with just short vacation visits. Several students have spent an academic year at Charlotte High School, Punta Gorda, Florida, learning of our culture and community. Students from Charlotte have also leaned much of the culture of other countries. 5
