UCLA s Samantha Peszek was named the Gymnast of the Week, UTAH s Corrie Lothrop was voted Specialist of the Week, and CALIFORNIA s Toni-Ann Williams was selected as the Freshman/Newcomer of the Week. UCLA senior Samantha Peszek earned Gymnast of the Week honors for her performance in the Bruins meet against Arizona on Jan. 19 and their meet at Utah on Jan. 23. In the two meets, Peszek totaled six first-place showings including a first place in the all-around against No. 5 Utah. Peszek scored a 9.875 or higher on every routine in the past week, including a 9.975 on bars and a pair of 9.95s on beam. She is now No. 1 in the nation in all-around individual score. This is the first Gymnast of the Week honor for Peszek in 2015 after winning the award in the final week of the 2014 season. Utah senior Corrie Lothrop earned Specialist of the Week honors for her performance in the Utes meet against UCLA on Jan. 23. Lothrop tied for first on bars, came in second on floor, and helped put the meet away for the No. 5 Utes with a clutch beam routine. Lothrop scored season-highs on all three events in which she competed. California freshman Toni-Ann Williams earned Freshman/Newcomer of the Week honors for the second week in a row this week. Williams helped the No. 23 Golden Bears improve to 10-0 in a quad meet against No. 20 Denver, San Jose State, and Arizona State on Jan. 25. Williams came in first in four events: the vault, bars, floor, and all-around. Her 39.475 allaround score is the fifth-highest all-around score in California history. Williams career-high and program-record 9.95 on floor was just the fifth 9.95 on the event in program history, and was last posted by a Golden Bear in 2004. Williams now has ten event titles through just four meets this season. A gymnast of the week has been selected every week of the season since 2001. The Specialist of the Week award was added in 2008. It is the third year for Freshman/Newcomer of the Week.
