NEWMAN CENTRAL CATHOLIC HIGH SCHOOL SCHOLARSHIP INSTRUCTIONS 2019-2020 Newman Central Catholic High School offers scholarships through the funding of its benefactors. The benefactors of Newman are greatly appreciated as they assist with the funding of students tuition and overall expenses of the school. Prior to submission of your scholarship essay, you must have registered for next school year. Scholarship applications not meeting these criteria will not be considered. All papers must be submitted by April 1st, 2019. Scholarship applicants need to email a one-page essay answering questions on the following two subjects unless otherwise stated in the Scholarships listed below; 1. Why receiving a Catholic education is important to you? 2. How will you benefit from this scholarship? Please include the following information in the introductory paragraph of your essay: Name, Address, Present Grade, Present School, Father and Mother Name along with their occupation, list any siblings, and anyone else that lives in your household. Also include, a list of activities you participate in, in and outside of school. Criteria for each scholarship may differ. Please read the criteria carefully, as some scholarships require additional information and/or require an extra essay. NEW!!! - The scholarship essay deadline is April 1st, 2019 at 3:00 PM. EVERY scholarship for which you are applying MUST be submitted in a.pdf format and sent to the E-MAIL listed on the scholarship. Scholarships must be submitted to the proper scholarship e-mail and titled in the following manner or it will not be accepted: last name, first name and scholarship name Example: Smith, John - Bittorf.pdf. SCHOLARSHIP CRITERIA: Rev. Fr. Leo J. Bartel graduated from Community Catholic High School in 1950. He was ordained a priest in 1958. Although Fr. Bartel resided in many different areas, he was always involved in his community. This scholarship is for a Newman who student is who is involved in many activities in and outside of school and takes pleasure in serving mankind. bartel@newmancchs.org BITTORF SCHOLARSHIP CRITERIA: This scholarship is rewarded to a deserving student who is in good academic standing and has an interest in athletics. bittorf@newmancchs.org HELEN LONG BLOMBERG SCHOLARSHIP CRITERIA: This scholarship is in memory of Helen Long Blomberg Class of 1952, who has a love and passion for education. CHESHIER FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP CRITERIA: This scholarship is open to a current Newman student who instills the importance of a Catholic education and is involved in school activities. This student must maintain a 2.5 GPA. ROSEMARY KEEGAN SL MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP CRITERIA: The Class of 1947, in memory of Sr. Rosemary Keegan SL, has established this memorial scholarship. This memorial scholarship is available to any Newman student who desires to apply his/her talents in the nurturing and Christ centered environment offered by Newman Central Catholic High School. DELHOTAL MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP CRITERIA: This memorial scholarship is awarded to a student who participates in multiple sports, has at least a B average and demonstrates the spirit of sportsmanship both on and off the field. MARY G. HAENNI MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP CRITERIA: This scholarship is for a Newman student who has the love of the arts and the love of animals. Along with your essay, please submit your favorite recipe along with an experience of baking/cooking with your favorite someone. haenni@newmancchs.org ANN HERMES MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP CRITERIA: This scholarship was established to provide financial assistance to a student who demonstrates self-worth and will attend Newman Central Catholic High School in the fall. hermes@newmancchs.org MATTHEW HOFFMILLER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP CRITERIA: This scholarship is in memory of Matt Hoffmiller, class of 1995, who held his faith, family, Newman and friends in high esteem. He was involved in many school activities including athletics, musicals, choir and extra-curricular clubs. He worked hard academically to achieve the goals he set and always was the unsung hero in the hallways protecting and defending the less fortunate in life. MCGINN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP CRITERIA: This scholarship is for an incoming sophomore student from either Newman or transferring to Newman, who should write a separate essay on mind, body and spirit, and how those three assets have affected or made a difference in his/her life. This scholarship is perpetual, meaning if the student continues to meet the criteria requirements, may be offered the same scholarship throughout your high school enrollment at Newman. Those applying for this scholarship should indicate in their essay a whole person concept to include involvement in school, community, church, and volunteer/athletic activities. The applicant should have a strong work ethic/high expectations when it comes to academics and giving back to their community.
