Sprague Lester Sprague S. Lester, age 94, passed away peacefully in Edmonds on September 3, 2016. Sprague was retired from Wells Fargo Bank. He was active in the Edmonds Senior Center Choir and the Edmonds Lions Club for many years. Sprague is survived by his sisters, Thyrza and Elizabeth; his children, Sarge and Connie; many nieces, nephews, grand-children and great-grandchildren, and many dear friends. Sprague joined the Lions Club October 1, 1972. He became a Life Member July 26, 2005. He was a member of the Edmonds Lions Club for many years. Sierra Park Path for the Blind Although the City of Edmonds owns the land, the Edmonds Lions Club is responsible for maintenance of the Path for the Blind at Sierra Park. A small but industrious crew turned out for the September monthly clean up. Work parties will resume in the spring. Thank you to Ed Soper for so ably coordinating the work parties. Thank you, also, to the Edmonds Lions who dedicate one Saturday a month during the spring and summer to keeping the park in tip-top shape. Ed Soper, Sierra Park Path for the Blind chair, always seems to wear a smile when he volunteers at the park.

Why?... Because Borrowed from September 2016 Busy B WHY? Why do men s clothes have buttons on the right while women s clothes have buttons on the left? Drawing from the United States Department of Defense. Columbus Day, a national holiday in many colonies in the Americas, officially celebrates the arrival of Christopher Columbus in and European discovery of the American continent on October 12, 1492. It became a federal holiday in the United States in 1937, but people have celebrated Columbus voyage since the Colonial period. BECAUSE: When buttons were invented, they were very expensive and worn primarily by the rich. Since most people are right-handed, it is easier to push buttons on the right through holes on the left. Because wealthy women were dressed by maids, dressmakers put the buttons on the maid s right! And that s where women s buttons have remained since. WHY do ships and aircraft use mayday as their call for help? BECAUSE: This comes from the French word m aidez meaning help me and is pronounced, phonetically, mayday. 2016 Flag Days January 18.Martin Luther King Day February 15. Presidents Day May 30.
