Dear friends, Our Challenge We want to be good Christians, but the things of this world so often blind us to what the will of God involves. Also, the needs of the body lay a heavy claim against the priorities of the soul. Christ s followers must live with an ever-growing conscious awareness of the will of God concerning our daily lives. The Apostle Paul called himself a prisoner of Christ. His commitment to Christ cost him his independence and his freedom. For Paul, becoming a Christian meant putting himself under the authority of Christ. Nothing else mattered except advancing the cause of his Lord. Jesus clearly over-stated the demands of discipleship when he insisted that his followers turn their backs on their family and friends. But he wanted his followers to be aware of the high costs that were involved in becoming his companions in seeking and saving the lost. All of us aspire to achieve what we believe are worthy goals. As followers of Christ we have no higher goals than those expressed in his own words. But we cannot meet these high goals without paying the price that success demands. Those who achieve such goals are committed totally to our Lord Christ s visions, and are willing to work hard day by day to achieve them. Christ welcomes all of us to his side as his followers and his friends. But he does not call us under false pretenses. He lets us know that he will be satisfied with nothing less than a radical commitment to the kingdom of God. The central symbol of Christianity is not an easy chair but a rugged cross. Our faith was born out of the sacrificial love that Christ had for the world. We are not worthy to bear the name Christian - - those who are Christ-like - - unless we have our part in such sacrificial love. Have a good week!
