BAFS TEACHERS EXPRESS NEWS / INFORMATION / EVENTS / ACTIVITIES NEWS HKICPA/HKABE BAFS Mock Examination HKICPA/HKABE BAFS Mock Examination The Hong Kong Institute of CPAs (HKICPA) and Hong Kong Association for Business Education Limited (HKABE) will organize the HKICPA/HKABE BAFS Mock Examination on 28 December 2018. The mock examination aims to help students fully prepare for the 2019 HKDSE Examination on Business, Accounting and Financial Studies, as well as to develop and assess students understanding and application of basic accounting and business knowledge, skills and values, to meet different business needs. Students targeting HKDSE 5** are highly recommend to sit the BAFS Mock Examination as part of their revision process. In 2018, statistics show that 77% of students (note 1) who achieved level 5** in the 2018 HKDSE Examination on BAFS had taken the HKICPA/HKABE BAFS Mock Examination. 1.1% HKDSE Examination BAFS 1.1% of HKDSE Examination 2018 candidates achieving level 5** in BAFS. 77% 5** Student in HKDSE Examination in BAFS 77% of candidates who achieved level 5** in the HKDSE Examination for the subject BAFS had taken the HKICPA/HKABE BAFS Mock Examination as mock practice. Note 1: The figure is based on the responses from the HKICPA/HKABE BAFS Mock Examination candidates who took both Papers 1 &2A/2B in 2017/2018. As some candidates did not report their HKDSE Examination 2018 results to the Institute, the actual percentage may be higher than the reported figures. A range of resources are also provided to support teachers and candidates in preparing for the Mock Examination, including: Pre-examination technique and post-examination question review seminars Free-of-charge Q&A booklets for the examination session enrolled in Scripts marking service with extra charge Registration deadline is 31 October 2018. EXAM scholarship HKICPA/HKABE Joint Scholarships for BAFS 2018-19 calls for nominations Both HKICPA and HKABE are keen to nurture young talent. The aim of the scholarship is to recognize secondary students who have achieved an excellent result in Business, Accounting and Financial Studies. The nominations for the 2018-19 scholarship are now open. All secondary schools offering BAFS with accounting/business management module are eligible for scholarships. Each eligible secondary school may nominate one full-time F.5 student who ranked first in the BAFS accounting/business management module within the whole form (based on F.4 full year result) for the scholarship. If the school has both accounting and business management modules, one nomination will be available for each module. For more details, please visit www.hkicpa.org.hk/bafs. ACTIVITIES seminar Pre-examination technique seminar for HKICPA/HKABE BAFS Mock Examination A pre-examination technique seminar will be held on 2 December 2018. ACTIVITIES BAFS teachers Symposium on Hong Kong financial and cost accounting in practice (refreshed) Business, Accounting and Financial Studies On 3 July 2018, the Institute partnered with the Education Bureau (EDB) to organize an education symposium at the Institute Auditorium. The event attracted almost 100 BAFS teachers. The objective of this year s symposium was to provide a platform for educators from secondary schools to share information, gain deeper understanding of the accounting profession, and enhance their knowledge of the BAFS curriculum. We would like to express special gratitude to our guest speakers, namely Lai Fu Kuen Director of Link-Pro CPA Limited, Dr. Josephine Wong, Lecturer, School of Professional Education and Executive Development, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University and Dr. Wang Joyce Linghua, Senior Lecturer of School of Accountancy, CUHK Business School, who shared their valuable insight with the teachers. 1 2 Lai Fu Kuen, Director, Link-Pro CPA Limited. ACTIVITIES BAFS students Accounting and Business Management Case Competition students visit company and interview a leading CPA On 31 July 2018, a group of secondary school students and finalist teams of the Accounting and Business Management Case Competition 2017-18 visited Hung Fook Tong Group Holdings Limited, the supporting company for the competition s case study. The visit was part of the learning activities following the competition. Participating students had the opportunity to visit Hung Fook Tong's production and packing facilities located in Tai Po Industrial Estate. Please click here to view the activity highlights. In addition, the Institute organized the young reporter programme to further reinforce the learning experience of students through interviewing a CPA. This year s champion team members interviewed Colin Lo, Financial Controller of Hung Fook Tong Group Holdings Limited, to learn more about his CPA life and career development. ACTIVITIES BAFS students HKICPA Accounting and Business Management Case Competition 2018-19 The upcoming HKICPA Accounting and Business Management Case Competition 2018-19 aims to develop the ability of senior secondary school students, especially those studying Business, Accounting and Financial Studies, to apply accounting information to business development problems and to improve their soft skills as required by today s business world.
