GLOBAL REACH Off the coast of Seoul, Korea An engineer contracted by a leading oil company was assigned to a rig off the South Korean coast. When the company extended his assignment there by three months, the engineer was faced with a medical problem. His supply of heart medication was nearly exhausted. RESPONSIVENESS Colca Canyon, Peru The Colca Canyon is one of the deepest canyons in the world, with soaring walls rising to 12,000 feet, leaving no possibility of hiking out, according to an article in National Geographic. In 2006, Blackstone Dilworth, the chief executive officer of a communications infrastructure company, was trekking through the canyon when he slipped off the narrow trail. Mr. Dilworth slid 50 feet down a steep slope until his fall was stopped by a cactus. He was left bleeding with cuts on his head and chest and was in urgent need of medical care. Mr. Dilworth s retained assistance company told him that their policy required that he check himself into a hospital in Lima before they could help. A member of his party then called Global Rescue. Within 20 minutes of the call, Global Rescue activated American and Peruvian aircraft, along with ground rescue teams in case a helicopter could not land in the rough terrain. Our teams located the party s signal fire, landed the helicopter and immediately started treating the patient. Mr. Dilworth was airlifted to a landing strip, transferred to a medically equipped aircraft, and then flown to a Center of Excellence in Lima. Once his wounds were treated and he was stabilized, Global Rescue safely evacuated Mr. Dilworth to his home hospital for further treatment. Boyle President, College Parents of America In 2008, an employee of a large university suffered a sudden cardiac arrest while on a work assignment in Qatar. The 37-yearold marathon runner was defibrillated by EMS and taken to a local hospital for treatment. His co-workers immediately contacted Global Rescue. Global Rescue dispatched a team of paramedics to Doha to act as on-site case managers. Global Rescue s Operations Center contacted the Qatari emergency room and gained access to the patient s medical records and ECGs. Our physicians then conferred with specialists from Johns Hopkins, who recommended the employee should undergo surgery to receive an internal cardiac defibrillator before boarding an airplane. Our case managers succeeded in expediting the timeline for surgery and provided physical and emotional support to the employee before escorting him home to the United States. The patient has made a full recovery and has returned to work.

USAF (Ret.) MEDICAL EVACUATION Bourg St. Maurice, France While competing in the French Alps, a U.S. Ski Team athlete crashed and shattered her pelvis. Her coach contacted our Boston Operations Center immediately to coordinate her transport from a clinic in the Alpine village of Bourg St. Maurice to Denver, Colorado. Global Rescue dispatched medical personnel to coordinate her care and act as on-site case managers. We initiated conference calls between the French doctors, the ski team s head physician and Johns Hopkins, who immediately identified that a critical component of her care had been overlooked. The doctors concluded that, due to the complicated nature of her fracture, the best option would be evacuation aboard an ICU-equipped Learjet 35 to a Denver hospital for surgery. She soon returned home to Steamboat Springs, Colorado, made a full recovery and returned to competition. ...WITH US IMAGINE YOUR EMPLOYEE S NEWBORN HAS JUST BEEN DIAGNOSED WITH A RARE DISEASE. That nightmare became a reality for the parents of a days-old infant and their employer. The child was diagnosed with a life-threatening disease while in Qatar. The parents contacted the assistance company retained by their employer and asked that the child be flown to the United States for treatment. The company refused. At that point, the parents contacted Global Rescue. We immediately led a call between the Qatari doctors and specialists from the American hospital to discuss treatment options. Shortly thereafter, we sent a specialized neonatal transport team to the Middle East. Within hours, the family and Global Rescue personnel were aboard a plane bound for the United States. Due to winter storm advisories in the Northeast, Centers of Excellence along the flight path were placed on standby. Despite the conditions, the Global Rescue team landed successfully at their destination and brought the patient and parents to the receiving hospital under police escort. The infant made a full recovery. CAPACITY Beirut, Lebanon JULY 2006 MISSION LOCATIONS LOCATIONS BOMBED IN LEBANON In July 2006, hundreds of foreigners found themselves trapped in Lebanon amid fighting between Israeli and Hezbollah forces. Roads were damaged, all major airfields were bombed and overflight clearances were unobtainable for non-military aircraft. The only way out appeared to be overland to Syria. Two Fortune 500 companies turned to Global Rescue to locate and evacuate dozens of employees scattered throughout the country. Our teams compiled physical descriptions of the employees, sometimes consisting of nothing more than a single photograph, as well as last known locations. Escorted by indigenous military teams over heavily damaged roads, Global Rescue found all employees, brought them to a central rally point in the capital and transported them via ship and helicopter to Cyprus prior to repatriating them.
