Abyssinia Baptist Church Scholarship Application

ATTENTION HIGH SCHOOL SENIORS AND PARENTS APPLY FOR SCHOLARSHIPS High school seniors who plan to enroll in institutions of higher learning during the 2014-2015 academic year are encouraged to apply based upon criteria listed below. Eligibility is as follows: 1. Applicants must be members of the church for at least one year at the time of application. 2. Applicants must submit all required documentation: application, typed essay, official copy of high school transcript, and forms verifying participation in church, high school and community organizations. 3. Applicants must be a graduating high school senior at the time of application. 4. Applicants must place all application materials in a sealed envelope and turn in to Mrs. Collins no later than Sunday, June 8, 2014. No applications will be reviewed after the deadline. Criteria for selection include: 1. Scholastic ability: Submit official high school transcripts with your application. 25% 2. Consistent participation in church activities. Submit verification forms signed by leaders who are familiar with your participation. Submit completed and properly signed verification forms along with your application. 50% 3. Involvement in school and community forms: You may submit verification forms detailing your involvement in school activities and forms detailing your involvement in organizations/activities. Submit completed and properly signed verification forms along with your application. 25% 4. Typed essay. This essay incorporates the theme, How Has the Church Impacted Your Life and What Career Goals Do You Plan to Pursue. ESSAY Please type a well organized essay on the theme, "How the Church Has Impacted Your Life, and the Career Goals You Want to Pursue. Applicant should cite personal examples of their participation in church sponsored events, academic and Christian education programs, ministries, etc., to develop the theme. Essays will be evaluated according to these categories: usage and mechanics, clarity and keeping with the theme, and inclusion of adequate details. All essays should be typed and put into a folder.
