CALIFORNIA STATE COLLEGE AT SAN BERNARDINO December 8, 1967 The BULLETIN TWO PROFESSORS AWARDED TENURE John M. Pfau announced. Professors Rene Dennemeyer (Mathematics) and Co Michael O'Gara (Physical Education) have been awarded tenure for the 1968 fall term, President Mr. O'Gara, Chairman of the Physical Education Department, formerly was boxing coach at UCLA and chairman of the PoEo Department at Antioch College in Ohio, He came to CSCSB on October 1, 1964, joining the planning staff before the campus was occupied. Mr, and Mrs. O'Gara have three children and eight grandchildren. Dr. Dennemeyer, Professor of Mathematics, came to CSCSB in September, 1966, after serving as a member of the technical staff for the Computation and Mathematics Center at Aerospace Corporation in San Bernardino. Previously he was an associate professor of mathematics at California State College at Long Beach, and a senior scientist for Lockheed Aircraft Corp. Dr. and Mrs, Dennemeyer have three children. THREE ON FACULTY Professor George McMichael (English) has been TO RECEIVE LEAVES awarded a sabbatical leave for the 1968-69 academic year to complete his book, "The Damned Scribbling Women," about American female writers of the 1850's. Professors Robert Smith (History) and Edward White (English) have been granted research and creative activity leaves for one term during the 1968-69 academic year. Dr. Smith will continue working on his book about the history of the Mesabi Iron Range in Northern Minnesota. Dr. White will continue working on his book "Jane Austen's Social Commonwealth," which relates Jane Austen's novels to the Romantic Movement. NEW SECURITY CHIEF EXPLAINS PHILOSOPHY C. Carl Johnson has become Chief of Campus Security at the College. He filled the new full-time position starting December 1. Johnson, a 1967 graduate of Cal Poly Pomona, worked his way through college as a campus security officer at the Kellog-Voorhis campus. He lives in Pomona with his wife, Marilyn, a graduate student Johnson has a Bachelor of Science degree in social service. He was a (cont'd on next page)

VISITORS ON CAMPUS Harold Pigott, chairman of the San Bernardino iralley College Humanities Division and Lawrence Mobley, head of the STtC English Department, visited CSCSB last week to confer with Dr Edward White (English) regarding the content of freshman composition courses at the two colleges. Eighty Pacific High students and five India High students audited classes of their choosing yesterday during a 2Ji-hour visit to CSCSB, ether high school groups of college-bound students are going to be invited to visit the campus during the winter and spring quarters.

"All the security officers are here to help anyone with problems. We want to help all the people on the campus to achieve their lawful goals. If students have to worry about their safety or their property, it will interfere with their studies. This also applies to the faculty if they have to worry about being assaulted on the campus after dark, or having test papers stolen out of their desk, they cannot do as effective a job of teaching." Johnson's office is in Room A-152 and his phone extension is 352, temporarily. Under the new philosophy of campus security, the chief reports to the Dean of Students as part of the Student Personnel program. The new chief will confer with students to provide security for extracurricular events on campus, whenever students request it. BOWLING LEAGUE The CSCSB Bowling League has sent out a call for at NEEDS RECRUITS least ten replacement members, both men and women. Students, faculty and staff are invited to join and are asked to contact Dale Lohmuller, Fred Cordova or Kathy Jaeger. The league bowls Wednesday evenings, 6sl5,at the San Hi Lanes. ARCHITECT PICKED The Board of Trustees of the California State Col- FOR NEW PARKING leges has approved the firm of Eckbo, Dean, Austin & Williams as project architects for the new parking facilities at CSCSB in 1968. In other action last week, the Trustees revised the 1968-69 budget to include $48,403 for the granting of a joint doctoral program between California State College at Los Angeles and UCLA. Cal State Los Angeles also received $346,996 for instructional television and a computerassisted instruction pilot program in 1968-69. ASB CHRISTMAS BALL COMING The ASB Christmas Ball will be held December 15 at the California Hotel. It is semi-formal, tickets $3.00 per couple, and will be from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. "The Sensations" will play for the holiday affair. Spec-4 Robert Warren, U.S. Army Engineers, was wounded in action and will be home on a 30- day recuperation leave before returning to Vietnam for a 6-month tour in 1968.
