Sophomore Jon Viruet finished fourth at 174 lbs., and junior Christian LaBrie placed fifth at 165 lbs. to lead Brown University wrestling at the Navy Classic on Saturday at the Wesley Brown Field House. Viruet (Springfield, Mass.) and LaBrie (Exeter, R.I.) each placed for the second time in as many weekends to open the year. At last week s Jonathan Kaloust Bearcat Open, Viruet came in third at 174 while LaBrie finished fifth at 165. LaBrie placed for the second straight year at the Navy Classic after posting a second-place performance in the tournament at 165 in 2015. At 174, Viruet earned four wins on the day, narrowly missing a third-place finish after dropping a 6-4 decision to Indiana s Devin Skatzka in sudden victory in the third-place match. LaBrie captured three wins at 165 as both Bears advanced to the semifinals. Three other Bears freshman Jimmy Pawelski (Park Ridge, Ill.), junior Zeke Salvo (Baltimore, Md.), and senior Jack Twomey-Kozak (Hillsborough, N.C.) reached the quarterfinals at 133, 141, and 149 lbs. respectively. Sophomore Tucker Ziegler (Myersville, Md.) at 184 lbs. and freshman Matt Lattanze (Norristown, Pa.) at 157 lbs. each claimed three wins on the day. Pawelski, senior Galloway Thurston (St. Igance, Mich.), and freshman Trey Keeley (Washington, Ill.) picked up two wins apiece at 133, 174, and 125 respectively. In the team standings, Brown came in 10 th place with 44.5 points, edging Delaware Valley (37.5) and Johns Hopkins (5.5). Indiana won the tournament with 155.5 points with Navy (114.5) and Kent State (113.5) following. Next, Brown will compete at the Journeyman Tussle at Hofstra in Hempstead, N.Y., on Sunday, Dec. 4.
