Job description Deputy Team Manager, Families First Location: Islington (N7) - Post based in ECV1 2PT Hours: 37 hours per week Grade: Family Action Grade 3 Point 24-28 Service: Families First Reports to: Team Manager Principal Accountabilities: 1. To assess the needs of families and provide short term interventions. To allocate longer term cases and provide effective case-management, and review and evaluate the work. To hold longer term cases if required e.g. to provide cover for Family Support Workers on leave or because higher level skills are needed. 2. To support, supervise and appraise Family Support Workers so that they can a) assess families needs and develop and review support plans in conjunction with the family and other agencies b) provide appropriate whole family casework and information, advice and practical support to individual family members c) effectively provide any designated specialist roles to the team. 3. To manage risk and safeguarding effectively; closely monitoring all higher risk cases and routinely updating the Team Manager and other staff and other agencies as needed. To keep accurate detailed records, write case reports and attend related meetings. 4. Through effective supervision, team meetings, performance management and coaching to develop the team s performance to provide high quality support to families, and to achieve agreed performance indicators and high levels of customer satisfaction. 5. To ensure that that the family support work provided is sensitive to the needs and wishes of both adult and child family members, and that the needs of the children and young people remain paramount. 6. To develop and deliver parenting programmes, group work and activities to meet the needs of vulnerable families.
7. To develop and maintain effective joint work with other relevant agencies, in order to complement and extend the support available to families. To enable those services that work with adults or children specifically, to adopt more of a holistic family focused approach, enabling those families not currently receiving a service to access support. 8. To actively participate in service reviews and evaluations, complete monitoring and evaluation material and report to managers and funders as required. 9. To develop and support effective user participation in the service. 10. To ensure that work is carried out within a framework that promotes equality of opportunity and respect for diversity in accordance with Family Action s policies. 11. To ensure that work is carried out within Family Action, Families First and national policies, particularly in relation to safeguarding children and supporting vulnerable adults; helping to maintain good quality standards of service. 12. To professionally represent Families First and Family Action in order to increase professional and public awareness of its work and of the views and needs of its service users. 13. To work flexibly as may be required by the needs of the service and undertake any other reasonable duties, including deputising for the Team Managers when required. This includes some work outside normal office hours. 14. Person Specification Deputy Team Manager 1. Educated to level three or above with a recognised professional qualification in social work, health, education or equivalent, and evidence of a commitment to continuing learning and professional development. 2. At least three years experience working with adults with particular entrenched personal problems and/or with children who are in need/at risk. 3. A good understanding of the range of adult issues which can impact on families, and of their impacts. 4. A good understanding of the development and care needs of children and young people. 5. Ability to assess needs and risks and to respond effectively and at the appropriate level to the range of practical and more in-depth needs of vulnerable families. 6. An awareness and understanding of the range of risk issues for children and vulnerable adults. 7. Experience of integrated, multi-agency working. 8. The ability to supervise, appraise and develop a diverse staff and volunteer team. 9. The ability to develop and facilitate group-work. 10. An understanding of the impact of social exclusion and discrimination and a commitment to equality of opportunity, including experience of working with users from diverse backgrounds with a proven ability to respect and respond sensitively to their needs. 11. A commitment to community participation and user involvement, as well as the ability to listen to and influence others through effective interagency liaison. 12. Excellent organisation and administration skills, including an ability to monitor an d control budgets.
13. Experience of evaluating and reviewing service outcomes in order to deliver the most effective service to the community. 14. Good oral and written communication skills and good computer skills. 15. Able and willing to do some out of hours work. 16.
