Sustainability & The Environment In New Zealand Description This Global Prep programme offers students the chance to participate in a 3 week, highly interactive programme that blends talks, visits to organisations, volunteer opportunities, workshops and hands on experiences to learn the best that New Zealand has to offer in terms of sustainability. Students will take part in daily workshops and seminars run by a diverse collection of organisations and individuals passionate about sustainability in New Zealand. Outside of workshops, students will have the chance to explore Wellington s beautiful scenery as part of educational excursions and experience Maori language and culture during a Marae experience. Inspiring speakers hear from a diverse range of people who will challenge you, broaden your horizons and spark new possibilities. Connection and networking opportunities meet VIP's, new friends, co-founders and collaborators throughout the Festival. A market place for ideas & opportunities connect with purpose-driven businesses, interactive stalls, lounges, and future pathways. Arts, entertainment and performance a vibrant atmosphere showcasing a range of artists and musicians to inspire your creativity. Future-focused panels explore megatrends and the big issues of our time with thoughtleaders from a range of different sectors.
Accommodation Students will stay with AFS New Zealand selected and monitored paid home-stays. Activities Our programme includes visits to: Zealandia A world class conservation project. Red Rocks Explore the rugged south coast of Wellington by walking from Owhiro Bay to the Red Rocks (Pari-whero); an area of national significance with fascinating geology and Maori history. Little Yellow bird Explore sustainability in the fashion industry. Somes Island Discover native wildlife, visit the lighthouse and WWII bunkers for a journey back in time, and meet the local sheep on the island s farm. Marae stay Experience Maori culture first hand and learn about Maori cosmology and ways of looking after the environment. Workshops Develop your own sustainability project that can be applied in your own community and make real and meaningful difference with the support of: Young Enterprise Trust Young Enterprise a charity that works with NZ youth to give them their first taste of business and teach them how to manage their money well. Adapting to changing circumstances, failing fast, feeling success and learning how to collaborate in teams are only a few of the skills you will learn while you get your hands dirty and create your own social enterprise with the help of their expert team.
