All scholarship grants are for one [1] year; however, at the discretion of the scholarship committee, the grants may be continued for up to a total of eight (8) semesters. Please note that the scholarship cannot be used for room and board. The scholarship committee determines the amount of each grant, based upon the funds available and evaluation of all categories of qualification. New award winners are added each year. The award check will be mailed directly to the recipient s college. To the extent possible, a public announcement of the recipients will be made at an award ceremony held by the recipient s high school. Criteria for Determining Recipients The criteria used by the scholarship committee to determine recipients includes: Enrolled or plan to be enrolled FULL TIME (a minimum of 12 hours) in college Prior academic preparation on tests designed to measure ability and aptitude for college work Academic performance at high school and/or college (GPA) Recommendations from instructors and other responsible persons Financial need The results of a personal interview with the scholarship committee. The interview will assist in determining candidates motivation, character, ability and potential. Overview of the process and typical recipient profile This scholarship program was established in 1971. In a typical year, approximately 120 applications are submitted. Incomplete or illegible applications are immediately disqualified; applicants must follow directions and assure all information, endorsements and an official transcript is submitted.
Overview of the process (cont d) Eligible candidates (both new and renewed applications) are profiled as to their graduating high school, major, college chosen, SAT scores, and GPA. Typically candidates with an SAT score of 1100 or higher, a GPA of 2.5 or higher on a 4-point scale, and who are in the top 10% of their graduating class (if a new applicant) are prioritized for further consideration. Written applications are reviewed carefully to assure accuracy of information provided and to consider unique needs and circumstances. Finalists will be asked to attend a 20-minute interview with the committee. The interview session is held on a Saturday, usually in early May, in Franklin, Indiana. Awards typically range from $500 - $4,000 per academic year. Approximately $75,000 is awarded annually among 50-60 recipients. Filing the Application Filing the application is the responsibility of the applicant.
