1. GENERAL RULES 1.1 INTRODUCTION 1.1.1 Armonia 2018 The 5 th National Law Fest of Madhusudan Law College shall be held from 23 rd March to 25 th March, 2018 in the premises of Madhusudan Law College, Station Bazaar, Cuttack, Odisha, India. 1.2 ELIGIBILITY 1.2.1 Bona fide students pursuing three or five year courses of the LL.B. degree in the current academic year from any recognized law school/college/university in India and officially deputed for the purpose are eligible to participate. 1.3 LANGUAGE 1.3.1 The official language of the Event shall be English and Hindi can be used in the Beyond the Bar, The Lawyers Got Talent Competition. 1.4 DRESS CODE 1.4.1 The official Dress Code for the Events is as follows: Girls: Black Trousers & White Shirt, or Black Salwar & White Kurta, with Black Blazer and Black Formal shoes. Boys: Black Trousers, White Shirt, Black Blazer, Black neck tie and Black Formal shoes. 1.5 TEAM COMPOSITION 1.5.1 Each law school/college/law university may enter only one team, which shall comprise of three members to participate in the events of National Law Fest ARMONIA-2018. 1.5.2 For details of the team compositions for a specific event, please refer to the Rules and Regulations of the respective Events. 1.5.3 It is compulsory for every team to participate in all the listed events of Armonia 2018. 1.5.4 Any additional member shall not be entitled to hospitality or certification. 1.5.5 The participation is limited to only 12 teams, as the criteria for selection of teams will be solely on the discretion of the organising committee. The decisions so taken by the organisers may deem fit in the interest of maintaining and developing the standards of National Law Fest. 2

1.6 REGISTRATION 1.6.1 All interested teams are required to register themselves by sending an e-mail to armonia2018mslc@gmail.com latest by 11:59 P.M. on 5 th March, 2018. The subject should read as Registration for ARMONIA 2018. The mail should contain scanned copy of the duly filled registration form. 1.6.2 The registration of the team shall be confirmed by the organizers latest by 7 th March 2018 on the basis of criteria mentioned in Rule 1.5.5. 1.6.3 Acceptance or non-acceptance of the registration of a team is the sole discretion of the organizers. 1.6.4 On the confirmation of the registration, the teams are required to send the hard copy of the dully filled registration form so as to reach the organizers latest by 17 th March 2018. 1.6.5 The hardcopy must be sent to following address and should be distinctly marked with words Armonia 2018 on the top of the envelope: PRINCIPAL,, STATION BAZAAR, CUTTACK. ODISHA. PIN- 753003 1.7 PAYMENT OF REGISTRATION FEES 1.7.1 Registration fees for Armonia-2018 is Rs.1000/- per member of a team. 1.7.2 Registration fees must be sent in the form of a Demand Draft in favour of The Principal, Madhusudan Law College, Cuttack, payable at Cuttack, along with the hard copy of the duly filled registration form so as to reach the Organizers latest by 17 th March 2018. 1.7.3 The registration fee sent shall not be refunded under any circumstances. 1.8 TEAM CODE 1.8.1 After the validation of hard copy of the duly filled registration form and demand draft, the registration shall be completed and team codes and individual code shall be allotted. 1.8.2 After successful completion of registration of a team, the codes shall be communicated to the registered team via email. 1.8.3 The team codes and individual codes issued shall be the source of identity of teams and participants throughout the competitions. 1.9 HOSPITALITY AND ACCOMMODATION 1.9.1 Accommodation for all outstation teams shall be provided by the organizers from 23 rd March 2018 to morning of 26 th March, 2018. 1.9.2 Teams who arrive prior to or leave after the specified time are required to make their own arrangements. 3

1.9.3 Participants shall be received from Cuttack Railway station or Cuttack bus terminus only. Teams are required to make their own arrangements for reaching the same. 1.9.4 Teams arriving at Bhubaneswar airport or Bhubaneswar railway station can reach Cuttack railway station through regular bus, train, pre-paid auto, taxi services, etc. available from Bhubaneswar to Cuttack. 1.9.5 The college is situated adjacent to the Cuttack railway Station and at about 3 K.Ms from Cuttack Bus Stand. Cuttack is 25 K.Ms from Bhubaneswar, the Capital of Orissa. 1.9.6 For availing the necessary arrangements, the travel and stay details/plan must be intimated to the Organizers at earliest or as and when asked for. 1.9.7 Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner shall be provided on the days of event. Teams failing to report to the place of event before the commencement of Armonia-2018 shall be disqualified. 1.9.8 Teams leaving before the completion of valedictory function shall not be entitled to any certification or awards. 1.9.9 Teams aren t allowed to leave the place of accommodation without the permission of the Accommodation head. 1.9.10 Teams leaving the place of accommodation will be leaving at their own risk and the organisers won t be responsible for any loss or damage caused. 2. RULES FOR SPECIFIC EVENTS 2.1 THE TRIAL, The National Trial Advocacy Competition Number of Rounds: 1. Preliminary Round 2. Semi - Final Round 3. Final Round GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS: 1. Any written memorial or submission prepared by the participating team should not contain the name of the participating Law College / School / University, name of the participants, name of the country of the participating Law College / School / University or any identification in any part thereof. 2. Also, no logo or any mark of identification should be made in the memorials. 3. Non-compliance with this rule will lead to immediate disqualification of the team. Participants may introduce themselves to the court by their individual code. 4

ADVOCATE ATTIRE / DRESS CODE: The dress code shall be Advocate s Attire during the competition rounds i.e. Black and White Combination including Neckband and Advocate Gown. ORIENTATION PROGRAM: 1. There will be an Orientation Program for all the participants on March 23, 2018. During this program participants will be briefed with all the necessary rules and regulation of the competition. 2. It will be followed by a draw of lots & exchange of witnesses list. 3. The draw of lots and the exchange of witness list on 23 rd March 2018 will be only for the Preliminary Round. 4. Teams will be given an hour for briefing their witnesses only for preliminary round after the orientation programme on 23 rd March 2018. DRAW OF LOTS: 1. For Prelims- There will be draw of lots on 23 rd March 2018. Also an exchange of witnesses list with witnesses briefing session will be conducted. Timing for draw of lots and witnesses list exchange will be 15Minutes and 1hour will be allotted for witnesses briefing. 2. For Semi-Finals- There will a draw of lots on 24 th March 2018 after the Preliminary Round among the qualified participants. Also an exchange of witnesses list with witnesses briefing session for 45mins. Timing for draw of lots and witnesses list exchange will be 15Minutes and 30Minutes will be allotted for witnesses briefing. 3. For Finals- There will be draw of lots on 25 th March 2018. Also an exchange of witnesses list with witnesses briefing session will be conducted. Timing for draw of lots and witnesses list exchange will be 15Minutes and 45Minutes will be allotted for witnesses briefing. Preliminary Round: In the Preliminary Round the time slot for each round shall be as follows:- a. Opening statement on behalf of the Prosecution 5 Minutes. b. Opening statement on behalf of the Defence 5 Minutes. 5

c. Examination-in-Chief on behalf of the Prosecution 25 Minutes d. Cross Examination on behalf of the Defence 20 Minutes. e. Examination-in-Chief on behalf of the Defence 25 Minutes f. Cross Examination on behalf of the Prosecution 20 Minutes g. Closing Statement on behalf of the Prosecution 10 Minutes. h. Closing Statement on behalf of the Defence 10 Minutes. Marking Pattern for Oral Submission: The criteria for marking in the Trial competition shall be briefed to all the participants during the Orientation Programme on 23 rd march 2018. WITNESS: 1. For Preliminary Round: As two members of a team will be speakers the other member will be one of their witness. The Organisers of the event will provide other witnesses. Witness briefing For the Preliminary Round will be done after the Orientation Programme on 23 rd March 2018. 2. For Semi-Final Round- For this round each qualifying team will brief all their Witnesses. 3. For Final Round- In this round the qualifying teams will brief their Witnesses. OTHER RULES: Each trial team shall be comprised of two advocates and the other member will be one of their witnesses. For each team the Organisers of the event will provide other two Witnesses. Witness briefing for the Preliminary Round will be done after the Orientation Programme on 23 rd march 2018 and for the subsequent rounds, right before the beginning of that round. The teams must call at least 2 witnesses and at most 3 witnesses. The teams are not bound by the charges mentioned in the F.I.R. and the charge sheet. Prayer for alteration of charge can be made (right at the beginning of the Trial) as per Criminal procedure. The teams are not bound by the list of witnesses provided in the chargesheet. 6

DECISION- 1. Decision of the Judges shall be final and binding. 2. Decision of the Administrators shall be BINDING in interpretation of any rules of the procedure or for any query regarding the decisions so taken by the judges. 2.2 THE ADVOCATE S QUILL, The National Legal Drafting Competition 2.2.1 TEAM COMPOSITION 2.2.1.1 The participating team shall comprise of only ONE (1) member. 2.2.1.2 This team composition cannot be altered once the team registration is successfully completed. 2.2.2 GUIDELINES 2.2.2.1 There shall be an on spot legal drafting competition. 2.2.2.2 The legal drafting will be an offline competition. 2.2.2.3 All materials required will be supplied by the organizers. 2.2.2.4 The problems for the competition shall be set in the area of Criminal Law of India. Genre will be provided afterwards. 2.2.2.5 The problem and the format for drafting will be also intimated to the teams around a week before Armonia 2018. 2.2.2.6 Timing for this event will be announced to the participants during the Orientation Programme. 2.2.3 MARKING CRITERIA 2.2.3.1 Structure and format. 2.2.3.2 Originality and Ingenuity of ideas. 2.2.3.3 Manner in which issues covered 2.2.3.4 Language, Grammar and Style 2.2.3.5 Overall Content, presentation and persuasiveness 2.3 THE VERDICT, the National Judgement Writing Competition 2.3.1 TEAM COMPOSITION 2.3.1.1 The participating team shall comprise of only ONE (1) member. 2.3.1.2 This team composition cannot be altered once the team registration is successfully completed. 7

2.3.2 GUIDELINES 2.3.2.1 There shall be an on spot Judgement Writing competition. 2.3.2.2 This will be an offline competition. 2.3.2.3 All materials required will be supplied by the organizers. 2.3.2.4 The problems for the competition shall be set in the area of Criminal Law of India. Genre will provided afterwards. 2.3.2.5 The problem and the format will be also intimated to the teams around a week before Armonia 2018. 2.3.2.6 Timing for this event will be announced to the participants during the Orientation Programme. 2.3.3 MARKING CRITERIA 2.3.3.1 Structure and format. 2.3.3.2 Originality and Ingenuity of ideas. 2.3.3.3 Manner in which issues covered. 2.3.3.4 Language, Grammar and Style. 2.3.3.5 Overall Content, presentation and persuasiveness. 2.3.3.6 Relevance of Judgement with the facts of the case. 2.4 QUIZZARD, the National Quiz Competition 2.4.1 TEAM COMPOSITION 2.4.1.1 The participating team shall comprise of TWO (2) members. 2.4.1.2 This team composition cannot be altered once the team registration is successfully completed. 2.4.2 ROUNDS 2.4.2.1 There shall be two rounds of the Quiz Competition; Preliminary Round and the Final Round. 2.4.2.2 In case of compelling circumstances, Organizing Committee reserves the right to determine the overall results for Quiz on the basis of Preliminary Rounds only without conducting Final Round. 2.4.2.3 In case of any tie in either of the rounds, the Organizing Committee/ Quiz- Master shall have the right to adopt appropriate methods for tie-breaking. 2.4.3 PRELIMINARY ROUND: 2.4.3.1 The preliminary round shall be in writing. 8

2.4.3.2.2 Each team shall be given a set of question papers containing 100 objective type questions from areas of General Knowledge, Legal Knowledge and Current Affairs. 2.4.3.3 Each correct answer shall carry 1 mark and on each incorrect answer 0.5 marks shall be deducted. 2.4.3.4 The time limit for the Preliminary Round shall be 45 Minutes. 2.4.3.5 Top six teams shall qualify for the Final Round on the basis of their scores in the Preliminary Round. 2.4.2.5 FINAL ROUND: 2.4.2.5.1 The Final Round shall be basically consisting of various Oral Rounds. 2.4.2.5.2 Rules, regulations and guidelines relating to the final round shall be specified on the spot. 2.5 BEYOND THE BAR, The National Lawyers Got Talent Competition 2.5.1 TEAM COMPOSITION 2.5.1.1 The participating team shall comprise of compulsory three (3) members. 2.5.1.2 This team composition cannot be altered once the team registration is successfully completed. 2.5.2 RULES 2.5.2.1 The organisers have not set any rules for this event. 2.5.2.2 Beyond the bar has a series of fun events, which has some exciting and fun busted challenges for the participants. 2.5.2.3 Rules for each fun event will be announced on spot. 3.1 AWARDS 3.1.1 The following awards shall be presented: 3.1.1 TRIAL ADVOCACY 3.1.1.1 Winning Team 3.1.1.2 Runners-Up Team 3.1.1.3 Best Student Advocate 3.1.2 LEGAL DRAFTING 3. Other awards and certificates can be given at the discretion of the Organizing Committee. 3.2 SPECIAL AWARDS 3.2.1 As it is quite evident from the theme of fest, we believe in promoting a congenial and friendly ambience coupled with high level of academic excellence and never say die spirit; a perfect blend of competitiveness and comradeship is what the SPIRIT OF ARMONIA is. The recipient of SPIRIT OF ARMONIA award shall be selected by the ARMONIA participants themselves. 3.3 COPYRIGHT 3.3.1 The copyright over the memorandums or other materials submitted for the purpose of the competition shall be deemed to be assigned by the participants and the Participating Institution completely and fully with the Organizers. The participants are deemed to certify the originality of materials and shall be responsible for any claim or dispute arising out of the further use and exhibition of these materials. 3.3.2 Further use and exhibition of these materials, electronically or otherwise, shall be the exclusive right of the Organizers and they shall not be responsible for any liability to any person for any loss caused by errors or omissions in the collection of information, or for the accuracy, completeness or adequacy of the information contained in these materials. 3.4 CLARIFICATIONS 3.4.1 Teams may request clarifications regarding the listed competition also about the General Rules and Regulations of the Events via e-mail to armonia2018mslc@gmail.com. The subject of such e-mails must read Request for Clarification. 3.4.2 The last date to seek such clarifications is 18 th March 2018. 10

3.4.3 Common doubts or vagueness in the rules if any will be clarified in the form of corrigenda, which shall be sent to all teams by email. 3.4.4 All teams/participants may access https://www.facebook.com/armonia2018mslc/ or www.mslawcollege.org for information/updates regarding ARMONIA- 2018. 3.5 CODE OF CONDUCT 3.5.1 Friendly and healthy interaction among the participating teams and with the students of the host college is encouraged and expected. 3.5.2 The participants are expected to behave in a dignified manner befitting the legal profession. Maintenance of decorum during the law fest is expected within and outside the college premises. 3.5.3 Any individual or Team found attempting to unduly influence Judges, Organizers or other participants to the detriment of shall be disqualified. 3.5.4 Any action detrimental to fair Competition or against the spirit of the Event is strictly prohibited. 3.5.5 The organizers reserve the right to take appropriate action for any unethical, unprofessional and immoral conduct. 3.5.6 The participants are required to be punctual in all the events organized and any delay in appearance/ presentation shall invite deduction of marks/ disqualification (at the discretion of the organizers) in their respective event. 3.5.7 Scouting in any form or any unethical/unprofessional practice shall lead to disqualification of the Team. 3.5.8 All team members shall refrain from wearing, using or carrying in any form, any identifying items, such as badges, blazers, pins or any other identifying material(s) such as books/bags with college/university/library logo or seal during the Competition. 3.5.9 Once inside the college campus, teams aren t allowed to leave the college campus without the permission of the Team Manager. 3.5.10 Teams aren t allowed to leave the place of accommodation without the permission of the Accommodation head. 11

3.5.11 Teams leaving the college campus or the place of accommodation will be leaving at their own risk and the college won t be responsible for any loss or damage caused. 3.5.12 Usage of cell phones or any kind of electronic devices is strictly prohibited during the course of the competitions. 3.6 ORGANISING COMMITTEE S EXTRA-ORDINARY POWER 3.6.1 For interpretation of rules and guidelines, request may be addressed to the Organizing Committee of the competition. 3.6.2 All interpretations as well as any waiver, consent or other decision in the administration of any event are at the complete discretion of the Organizing Committee. 3.6.3 The Organizing Committee s decision as regards the interpretation of rules or any other matter related to the Competition shall be final and binding. 3.6.4 If there is any situation which is not contemplated in the rules, the Organising Committee s decision on the same shall be final and binding. 3.6.5 The Organizing Committee also reserves the right to add, vary, alter, modify, or repeal any of the rules at any point of time, as required. 3.6.6 The Organizing Committee shall have the discretion to assess penalties or disqualify teams or participants in case of failure to comply with rule(s) or deadline(s). 3.6.7 The Organizing Committee reserves the right to cancel, defer or postpone indefinitely any round, event or the Fest in the event of the accruing of any compelling circumstances, natural or manmade. 3.6.8 The Organizing Committee shall have the sole power to resolve any dispute which may arise during the Competition 12
