In accordance with the approved suggested designs and with the provisions of paragraph 7-12, AR 145-2, the following insignia is authorized for Kapa a High School: a. Shoulder loop insignia (SLI) with description and symbolism as follows: DESCRIPTION On a shield shaped silver metal and epoxied device 1 1/8 (2.86 cm) in height blazoned as follows: Argent, a fess cottised debased Celeste bearing a stylized representation of the Hawaii Islands Argent (Silver), in chief between two coconut trees Vert a demi stylized Hawaiian Ali I warrior holding an Ihe fesswise of the third detailed of the fourth. Attached below the shield, a green scroll doubled white bearing the inscription KŪ I KA ŌMA OMA O in silver. SYMBOLISM The spear wielding warrior embodies the noble and brave spirit historically demonstrated by the Hawaiian warriors. The coconut trees are emblematic of perseverance as the Hawaiians used every part of the life-sustaining plants throughout their history. The map of the Hawaiian Islands surrounded by blue is reflective of Kauai s geographical location in the island chain and being one of the oldest inhabited islands. Blue is indicative of the Pacific Ocean, where the islands are located. Green and White are the school s colors. Green personifies the lush tropical vegetation of the Garden Isle and white signifying the purity and integrity of the people of Kapa a. The school s motto of KŪ I KA ŌMA OMA O translates to We Stand Green, referring to both the school colors as well as the natural resources of the Hawaiian Islands. AAMH-IHS SUBJECT: Insignia for Kapa a High School, JROTC DESCRIPTION On a white vertical rectangular shaped embroidered item arched convexly at top and bottom edged with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) green border between a vertically placed black Kāhili staff detailed purple to the left and a black Ihe tipped silver gray and garnished with green feathers to the right, a black stylized Hawaiian Ali I warrior head in profile to the right, detailed green. Attached above the rectangle, a white scroll edged with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) green border inscribed KAPA A in black. Attached below the rectangle, a white scroll edged with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) green border inscribed WARRIORS in black. The overall dimensions are 3 1/2 inches (8.89 cm) in height by 2 1/2 inches (6.86 cm) in width. SYMBOLISM The stylized royal warrior represents the pride of the Hawaiian people of Kapa a. The Hawaiian royalty were the only individuals to wear the Mahiole, a feathered helmet, in ceremonies and battle. The purple Kāhili, a feathered staff, is also symbolic of Hawaiian royalty, and carried by warrior Kāhili bearers and accompanied royalty in all ceremonies and processions. The purple color is the official color of Kauai Island. The Ihe, a spear, represents the warrior spirit and bravery historically demonstrated by Hawaiian warriors. The school s colors are green and white, with green alluding to the Hawaiian Islands and their lush tropical vegetation, and white is indicative of the purity and integrity of the people of Kapa a.
