Entrepreneurship Committees to Manage Curricular & Co-curricular Programs Entrepreneurship Curriculum Committee This committee focuses on managing entrepreneurship curriculum including assessment of the entrepreneurship program. Meets twice a semester. BBA Entrepreneurship Major Assessment Four Entrepreneurship instructors will take part in program assessment on April 17. All students enrolled in the entrepreneurship capstone course (MGMT 488 Field Studies in Entrepreneurship) will be individually interviewed by the instructors to assess the extent to which our students have achieved entrepreneurship program objectives. Results of this assessment will be used to update the course contents 5
2017-18 CFE Distinguished Speaker Aaron Crumm, Ph.D. Dr. Crumm is a scientist and a serial entrepreneur. He is the founder of Ultra Electronics, Adaptive Materials, Inc. Dr. Crumm s work has attracted more than $50 million in contracts to support the growth of AMI. Dr. Crumm was recognized as a distinguished entrepreneur with multiple awards including the Executive of the Year in 2011. 6
Entrepreneurship Speaker Series Throughout the academic year several entrepreneurship speaker events were organized for our students: Topics of these events included: how to start a business, how to run a small business, what is the patent process, what involves in franchising, etc. The following are some the examples of the speakers for this academic year. Community Engagement Local business and Student partnership Center for entrepreneurship recruits local businesses for semester long intensive student projects. The center hosts two networking events for the students and business owners to interact on campus, including one reception, where students present their recommendations. The center also acts as a liaison between the project instructor and the business owners. CFE organized 4 networking events this year Following are the six businesses we helped this academic year. 1. 2 keynote speakers shown in pictures (Neetu Seth, CEO - NITS Solutions and Todd Palmer, CEO Extraordinary Advisors) Sesi Entrepreneurship Conference This year we had 160 participants representing students from community high schools, colleges and universities, teachers from high school teachers, professors from colleges, small business service providers and entrepreneurs In addition, 5 breakout speakers (Nancy Grott & Ruth Knoll Clinton Art Center; Lisa Nelson Hush Intimate Apparel; Joanne Sholtis Entrepreneur; Eric Davis Automation Alley) spoke at the conference. 12
Skandalaris Business Plan Competition Altogether 128 business plans entered for this year s competition 50 Business plans for the High school category 78 Business plans for the College category CFE Pre-screened all the plans. 24 finalists (12 High school and 12 College) sent to external professionals for judging 8 professional judges were recruited by the center. Each plan was reviewed by at least 3 judges. 13
Elevator Pitch Competition 35 ideas were entered for this year s Pitch Competition. After an initial judging by the CFE, 13 finalists were selected for the presentation at SPARK-East on April 13. Around 50 people attended this event representing EMU students, faculty, business leaders from SBDC (Detroit and Washtenaw region), SPARK, NEF, WCC- Center for Entrepreneurship. 3 external professionals participated as judges for this competition This year s winners are: 1 st Place: Lilly DeRamos; Major: Apparel, Textile Merchandising 2 nd Place: Rachel Lowisz; Major: Dietetics-Intent 3 rd Place: Joshua Roach; Major: Product Design & Dev. 3 rd Place: Muhammad Ahmad; Major: Business Administration 14
