Dr. Killian comes from the University of Florida. During his first semester, he will be teaching General and General Lab I. 3 + 2 ENGINEERING PROGRAM On July 12, 2016, both Chancellors have mutually agreed and signed the Dual Degree Agreements between NCSU and UNCP which was held at NCSU in Raleigh, NC. Drs. Mandjiny, Brandon, Frederick, and Dr. and Mrs. D Arruda were present at the signing of the BS /BS Electrical and Mechanical Engineering degree agreements. Since then the enrollment numbers for this program has increased.

Long-time UNCP chemistry professor establishes $425,000 Endowment Scholarship at UNC Pembroke The $425,000 scholarship will fund four scholarships per academic year for American Indian students studying either chemistry, physics or nursing. To be eligible, the student must maintain a 3.7 QPA, be a graduate of a Robeson County high school and reside in North Carolina. New Arrival Congratulations to Dr. Tirla and her husband on the birth of their daughter, Zina, in June 2016. 2016 Department of and Physics Student Awards The UNC-Pembroke College of Arts and Sciences held its Annual Student Academic Awards Day Program on March 30, 2016. The event is an opportunity for departments to showcase and acknowledge outstanding student performances in and out of the classroom. Students recognized by the Department of and Physics are nominated and voted on by departmental faculty. CHEMISTRY & PHYSICS CLUB The department is continuing to work with students leading the chemistry and physics club. This club will be combined with the 3+2 program students. The club is led by Ms. Natasha Wells and Ms. Yara Abumohsen. DEPARTMENT SOCIAL For the Fall 2016, the department social took place at Luigi s Restaurant in Fayetteville on September 23, 2016. Everyone seemed to enjoy the fellowship, food and drinks. 2015 2016 CEREMONY FOR THE GAMMA SIGMA EPSILON CHEMISTRY HONOR SOCIETY The Department of and Physics held its Annual Gamma Sigma Epsilon Alpha Zeta Chapter Induction Ceremony on March 17, 2016. The Chapter at UNC Pembroke was established by Dr. Meredith Storms in April 2004. The current Chapter Officers are Marion Graylion, Christian Ryckeley, Briana Roberts, Natasha Wells, and Trae Griffin. The inductees of new members for 2015-2016 are Sharon Ayioka, Erin Barnhardt, Amanda Bowman, Taylor Felton, Kody Heubach, Dayten Hodge, K Yana McLean, and Akpedje (Kelly) Nadohou. Dinner was provided for the members and their guests, faculty and staff. Congratulations to the new members.
