Election of Chair Anyone in attendance interested not at this time Julie Baxter (Swedish-Edmonds) has volunteered to accept this role III. New modules 1 ½ hours for the 2 new modules this will need to be done by all students and faculty regardless if they have done the old modules Edmonds is going live in May EPIC updating Providence/Swedish will all be on the same platform with EPIC Some conference rooms will be going away Jamie Shirley UW Bothell New Dean Shari Dworkin Jamie is the new Director of the Nursing program New curriculum focused in on this Care transitions/community nursing Preparing students to work at the top of their license HERSA grant for students that are looking to have that available for students going on to teaching Emily Heng (SCCANS) Nurses week Quiz Competition Nurses day celebration Door prize/silent bid Movie Night (If Florence Could See Us Now) Nurses from the community Graduation 27 students graduating Picnic (Saturday, September 8 th ) Mary s Place Drive Selling apparel Lunch & LeaRN booked out until next Winter quarter Frankie Manning (Mary Mahoney) Working with students to be ready for practice This year they are working with 32 students Working with the VA with Jr. High school students to get them involved in nursing o An organization that will help with high school students is this available for this group of students? o Connecting students with Frankie to get students involved email with students that would be interested in connecting o Goal of Mary Mahoney to help students get through the program Anna Shanks (4th Quarter) Retiring after 18 years teaching at SCC Nursing Advisory Committee Minutes April 24, 2018 Page 2
Anna Sterner (6th Quarter) Peritoneal Dialysis training equipment students will be able to practice Sydne James (WSNA) Joelle Fati took new position Gloria Brigham Education Director o Big plans with convention 700 students participated in Lobby Day counter-protesters Scholarships given 2 Shoreline student receiving this in May WSNF is being re-established o Trying to get more contributors Debbie Kelly VM Medical Center Retiring position is now open Biggest issues Drug shortages especially with opioids Clinical practice alerts in regards to major changes to practice are in use o These alerts are going out at VM and Swedish Uptick in employee on the job injuries o Patients hitting and throwing things at nurses o Worry about students safety o Working with staff about setting boundaries o Organization wide safety huddle for communication in regards to safety concerns 15 minutes to discuss issues that are currently going on Comment: Let students now how important that it is to get to clinicals on time so that they don t miss out on the huddle and getting very important information. The importance of not holding the door for people that are coming in behind you to potentially let people in that shouldn t be allowed in. Hiring pool will not be coming from new grads the new normal Strong residency programs 2 focuses Purchasing the Visient product to help with hiring and training new grads In and out patient residency Kudos to Trena with a safety concerns filed a concern looking to change a practice. Lisa Malik Leaving this position at the end of June Recruiting for the Associate Dean of Nursing Position Mary Burroughs (5th Quarter/10 Quarter Program Coordinator) Students participated in the Amen clinic in Everett Received tenure since last meeting IV. Shoreline Nursing Program Updates a. Associate Dean position currently open Lynn will be retiring in June 2018 b. Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) Update and Review of Findings o We received on-going accreditation o Finding mostly in Standard 1 o Lynn is working on the follow-up report c. Accomplishments o Mary shared a letter from a previous graduate of the program o OADN graduates approximately 10 students per quarter d. Program Evaluation 1) NCLEX results Betty shared information pertaining to the pass rate Safety statistics are going up and this is probably due to the QSEN Competencies along with TeamSTEPPS Seeing improvement in 1 st quarter participating in SBAR 2) End-of-Program Surveys Fall Meeting 3) Graduate Survey results Fall Meeting 4) Employer Evaluations Fall Meeting 5) Employment Summaries Fall Meeting 6) Fall Application #s 145 (approximate) applicants V.
