2/3 Marines in Afghanistan, 2010 (including Editor s son) Strategic Survival (Retirement) This Holy Season Chaplain (Col.) Robert E. Mossey 719-576-6010 remoss75@yahoo.com Survival in itself can be very difficult. There is a momentum that carries people forward into their tomorrows, but are we the same people as when we began? What have we taken and preserved from our beginnings? The above is the beginning of the first article written for The Eagle in April 1994. Since then TROA and MOAA have followed the leadership of 24 Presidents and as the popular song goes, Times They Are A Changing! During those years we published more than 200 copies of our prize winning magazine. I wrote articles for those issues and have shared many historical occasions with the members of our Chapter. So, Survival is a term that brings us to this point in our lives. On December 31, 2017, I will retire from the honorable role of Chaplain for the Pikes Peak Chapter of the Military Officers Association of America. During these past 23 years, our presence and support at patriotic celebrations in our city s parks, parades, and special community observances served the needs of our citizens and provided leadership in special events in our churches, schools and businesses. Our members have made an impact on the growth of this community. I am proud to have served with you and will take with me many memories of all the wonderful people with whom I have served and had the privilege of providing helpful ministry. To each and all of you, my friends, my coworkers and all of your family members, I say Thank You for your love, support and encouragement. As I am not leaving this area, I will continue to support our chapter of MOAA. Let us continue to pray for each other during this blessed season and through the years to come. God bless you and may God continue to bless America. Time to Re-Up! Pete Mueller If you are a Regular or Auxiliary (non-life) Member, please visit our website to extend your Pikes Peak Chapter MOAA membership for another year (or two, or three!). Or, just send in your check together with the membership renewal form in this issue of The Eagle. Renewing your chapter membership is quick and easy, and membership dues are still just $24.00 a year! Please give me a call or shoot me an e-mail if you have any questions, need additional information, or need to update your information (e.g. mailing address, phone number, e-mail address, spouse s name or death, etc.). MOAA is the nation's largest (more than 380,000 strong!) and most influential association of military officers. We are a powerful force speaking for a strong national defense and representing the interests of military officers and their families at every stage of their lives and careers. For more than 80 years, MOAA has been serving those who serve their country. MOAA needs your support in order to continue our vital work advocating for the rights of service members, their families, and survivors. Why not ask a friend or relative to join today? If you would like to serve on the Membership Committee, caring for our current Chapter members while we grow our Chapter for the future, please contact me. We need all the good people and good ideas we can get! Merry Christmas and best wishes for the New Year! 5
