Community Affairs Monthly Summary Sgt. Clarence Whalen April, 2014 General Community Affairs Officers hosted the Citizens Police Academy on Tuesday Evenings at STPD. Safety Township registration and planning underway. Officers assisted with traffic at Monroe and Whiteford for a benefit walk. Officers Matuszewski and Maynard attended the SRT class at Owens. The class was hosted by TPD s SRT. Planning and participation of monthly SRT Training ongoing. Attended monthly detective meeting held by DC Carroll. Attended range and firearms meeting with DC Carroll and Sgt. Whalen. Draft of range and firearms cleaning policy prepared. Attended Crime Scene Training, and Heroin Crime Scene Training presented by BCI at the Lucas County Sheriff s Office. Note: Officer Krajicek on Medical Leave April 16-30. Schools Officer Snow continues to provide security in the mornings at Central Trail Elementary as students arrive for school. This also affords him the opportunity to get to know the students and develop rapport with them. Officer Krajicek completed the final DARE lessons with the 5 th grade students at Stranahan Elementary. Officers also reviewed the DARE reports written by students, and chose award winners. Graduation will be in May. Officer Snow facilitated a Role Model Day at Stranahan Elementary. Three eighth grade students from Timberstone Jr. High went to Stranahan to talk with fifth graders about being drug and alcohol free, and making good choices. They also answered various questions about what to expect in Jr. High.
Officers were summoned to Timberstone Jr. High School regarding a student who had an altercation with another student. Student s guardian was contacted and she arrived at the school to speak with the principal and counselors. Guardian states the student is a patient at the Zeph Center, and will advise the therapist at the next visit. Student was released to the guardian and the school will follow up on the discipline. Officer Snow conducted an investigation of drug use involving two females at Timberstone Jr. High. Officers held a Kindergarten presentation at Bennet Venture Academy. Officer Krajicek led a group of 1 st graders from Highland Elementary on a tour of the station and answered questions. Community Affairs continues spending time in the mornings and afternoons at Timberstone and Arbor Hills Jr. High during student arrival and departures from school. School officials strongly believe that our presence in the schools have had a positive impact with students. Bulk Currency Task Force Officer Matuszewski Felony marijuana arrest. Suspect was in the country illegally, and turned over to Border Patrol for deportation. Felony warrant arrest with nine additional misdemeanor warrants. Arrest of subject with a 30 day CCNO commitment order. Arrest of two suspects who were involved in a burglary in Sylvania Township involving the theft of $15,000 in power tools and two shotguns. Suspects supplied information as to where they sold the firearms and a search warrant was executed. Officers were able to recover the stolen shotguns as well as 18 other weapons. Nice job! Assist Township detectives in an arrest of a burglary suspect in Sylvania Township. A total of 79 hrs Task Force time were utilized for criminal patrol and surveillance. Speed Trailer There were no requests for use of the speed trailer for traffic enforcement this month. Citizen Patrol Group Citizens Patrol group members Michael and Diane Hieber volunteered 22.5 hrs assisting Community Affairs Officers with the Citizen Police Academy. **end**
