Past National Commanders Leadership Awards These awards will be presented at the Department Convention by Past National Commander Tony Jordan. There will be one award for the outstanding District Commander and one award for the outstanding Post Commander. The District Commander s Award will be known as the William J. Rogers s award and the symbol awarded will be a Roger s Ranger. The Post Commander s award will be known as the Anthony G. Tony Jordan award and the symbol awarded will be a Tony s Tiger. William J. Rogers, now deceased and formerly of the William J. Rogers Post 153 in Auburn, was National Commander of The American Legion in 1976-1977 and Tony Jordan of the Bradford Sortwell Wright Post 54 in Wiscasset was National Commander in 1997-1998. Past National Commander Tony Jordan and the two Department Vice Commanders will judge the applications to determine the winners and the recipients will be notified by the Department Adjutant to confirm his/her attendance at convention. The form to use to make submissions is at the end of this newsletter and must be received at Department Headquarters not later than May 1, 2016. This form may also be found on the Legion website at www.mainelegion.org. Hatch Post 79, and with the assistance of Mark Pilgrim, Ronald Vigue and Andy Buckman, twenty four Christmas letters were sent out to active duty personnel from Berwick, Maine. Seventeen service members with the rank of E-6 or below also received a $50 check from the Post, for a total of $850. To make their holidays a bit brighter, Unit 79 sent care packages to eleven service personnel stationed overseas.
