A Squadron. 2 nd Northamptonshire Yeomanry, Royal Armoured Corps. Died 30 th June 1944 aged 22 years. The action fought by A Squadron on the night of 29/30 th June which cost Francis his life destroyed his squadrons Cromwell (Medium) tanks when engaged by a vastly numerically superior (Heavy) tank force of the 12 th SS Panzer Division resulting in the squadrons virtual annihilation.
