FOREWORD It is our pleasure to present the Gary Green Link Master Plan to the Mayor, the City Council, the Department of Environmental Affairs, and the residents of the City of Gary. The intent of the plan is to guide planning, design, implementation, and management of a natural resources greenway and recreation corridor, the Gary Green Link, which will ring the City of Gary, connecting the Grand Calumet River, the Little Calumet River, and the Lake Michigan shoreline. The Master Plan is more than a report; it is a tool to be utilized over time. The plan provides a wide degree of flexibility that will allow for changes in community goals and attitudes, land uses and land acquisition, and funding sources without materially affecting the long-term goals and framework of the plan. Through numerous meetings with the Department of Environmental Affairs, the advisory group of stakeholders and the public, Wolff Clements and Associates, Ltd. and the rest of the consultant team understand the vision for the long-term stewardship of the City s natural resources and the connections that the city would like to make to these resources. Furthermore, this document indicates Gary s commitment to the development of a legacy of land stewardship for future generations. We look forward to continuing to work with you in the future as this vision becomes a reality. Respectfully submitted, WOLFF CLEMENTS AND ASSOCIATES, LTD. Ted Wolff, ASLA Principal
