I joined the IPS Education Foundation as Executive Director in late 2011, and I m proud of the successes that we have had together. For your roles in those, I am deeply indebted. I extend sincere thanks on behalf of the thousands of lives our efforts have touched. In the last year, we set ambitious goals for the Foundation related to both the organization s administration and the way we commit community resources to enhance the classroom experience for the 30,000 students of Indianapolis Public Schools. Today, our initiatives connect thousands of students to new technologies and vital learning tools. We have a refreshed and vibrant brand for the Foundation, including a new website. Several newly recruited board members have joined our passionate team of leaders. We have enjoyed forming new partnerships and been fortunate to gain many new supporters. These changes are all about creating opportunities: Opportunities for donors and Indianapolis community supporters to affect IPS classrooms with infusions of technology, art and music supplies. These opportunities create environments where teachers can excel and students can find success as they become empowered by their classroom experiences. Please review the brief financial reporting included in this publication, or visit our website for more details. In fiscal year 2012, more than $7 out of every $10 in gifts were directly connected to classrooms. You ve created impacts that have truly changed lives, and I invite you to read the quotes included in this report, which illustrate this so well. With deepest appreciation, Linda Broadfoot Executive Director
Creating real impact Last year, your support helped create higher quality learning environments for IPS students. In Lauren Wagner s elementary classroom, the purchase of ipads helped give voices to special needs students who were otherwise nonverbal. Physical education teacher Bruce Grossman used his Foundation grant to encourage a more active lifestyle in students, purchasing medicine balls to improve training and fitness test scores. It s this kind of impact that connects all of us to a brighter Indianapolis. With your support Your annual support builds student confidence, fosters responsibility, nurtures creativity and ignites passion for learning. These qualities ready IPS students for lifetimes of success. Only when we empower students to reach for the stars will they go on to achieve their dreams. Technologies are a must-have, not a luxury. From building student capacity for learning to providing me better tools for assessment, the technology is leveling the playing field for my students. Lauren Wagner, Special education teacher, IPS Thomas D. Gregg School 15 I m more responsible than I was a few years ago when we didn t have our own instruments or equipment. I practice every day, and I m proud that Mr. Bieda gives us motivation and the tools we need to be successful. Brandon, 8th grade band member at Harshman Magnet Middle School We are proud to be the Foundation s largest annual donor and to know that every penny of Monumental Marathon proceeds goes directly to support IPS students. Blake Boldon, Executive Director, Indianapolis Monumental Marathon I like the focus on the technology piece. Where there are inequities between schools, the Foundation is willing to see that need and work to remove barriers and bring needed tools to our students. Diane Arnold, IPS School Board When I look at supporting nonprofits, I look at those who engage and invest in young people. They are our future.
