Mary Jo Klinger Scholarship The Mary Jo Klinger Scholarship is a scholarship offered through the Clearbrook-Gonvick Education Fund, a component fund of the Northwest Minnesota Foundation (NMF). The Mary Jo Klinger Scholarship will provide scholarships to qualified students from Independent School District #2311 (Clearbrook-Gonvick Public High School) who are pursuing post-secondary education through an accredited college, university, technical, vocational, or community college. Scholarship funds are to be used for tuition and books or direct educational material expenses and will be paid directly to the institution attended by the student. Eligibility Requirements You must be a member of the current graduating class from ISD #2311 (Clearbrook-Gonvick High School). You must have passed the State Basic Skills Test. Selection preference may be given to students with a cumulative grade point of C or higher, but a lesser grade point should not prohibit you from applying. You must intend to pursue post secondary education through an accredited college, university, technical, vocational or community college within six months of the award. You have some participation, involvement, or have demonstrated positive leadership qualities in the following types of activities: School organized extra-curricular or volunteer activities. Community or church activities Non-school work positions Financial need may be considered in awarding the scholarship but is not an eligibility requirement. Application Process: You will provide the selection committee with the following information: A completed application form available from the high school counselor or NMF. A record of grades and attendance for grades 9-12. Your student transcript is acceptable. A copy of your letter of acceptance to the post secondary institution you have chosen to attend. A short statement (up to 200 words) on how extra-curricular activities or volunteer activities have benefited your education. A short statement (up to 200 words) on your community involvement and non-school work experience have benefited your education.
A letter of recommendation from a teacher or member of the community other than family members. This letter should point out personal attributes that demonstrate you are a good candidate for this scholarship.
Review Criteria: 1. Financial need will not necessarily be a predominant factor in awarding this scholarship. 2. Demonstration of fitness and readiness for college and a strong desire or likelihood of succeeding. Selection preference may be given to students with a cumulative grade point of C or higher. 3. Student s education/community involvement/work experiences as they relate to preparation for post secondary education. Selection and Award Protocol: 1. The scholarship selection will be made in accordance with the terms of this scholarship. 2. Announcement of the scholarship selection shall be made at the appropriate Senior Awards Night and by letter from NMF to the successful applicant. 3. The recipient must give written permission to publicize the award in the local media. 4. The recipient is strongly encouraged to send a written acknowledgement and note of gratitude to NMF within 30 days of the award of the scholarship. This letter will be forwarded to Mary Jo Klinger. 5. The award check will be issued to the educational institution for the student after NMF is presented with BOTH a transcript of the first semester grades and a tuition bill or class schedule for the second semester. 6. The award must be used for the academic year it is presented and may not be carried over to a following year. It is forfeited if not used when stipulated. 7. If a scholarship recipient changes or transfers to another educational institution they are asked to notify NMF immediately. 8. If the first choice of the selection committee fails to attend the institution as scheduled, the award may be transferred to a second candidate.
