Organization Colin Keogh Founder Dr. Shane Keaveney Founder The project founded by Colin Keogh and Dr. Shane Keaveney in 2015 in Dublin. We currently work with a team with diverse skillsets and locations including engineers, Designers, Educators and Development professionals in Ireland, Switzerland & Canada to further the foundations projects in 2017

About The Rapid Foundation project is a charitable project aimed at empowering people around the world by giving them access and training to disruptive technologies, enabling them to create and innovate to solve their own problems. We aim to address the barriers to innovation and creation that exist in many developed and developing countries globally, mainly the lack of access to and training in many of the new disruptive technologies (3D printers, Laser Scanners, Low Cost Design Software etc.). This lack of access limits the potential of many world changing ideas, locked away in the minds of people around the world, by limiting or completely stopping the realisation of these ideas into world changing solutions, products and services. Previous technologies needed to realise innovation were large, expensive pieces of equipment, requiring significant training and expertise to use. New disruptive technologies have torn down many of these barriers, allowing access to more people than ever in history.

About The project shifts the status quo of the traditional methods of delivering western aid to developing countries. Traditional aid projects will send technology and expertise to a location for a short period of time, implement ideas then leave, thus removing most of the technology and expertise until the next trip. We believe this is inherently unfair, as the local people can only influence these projects, not lead them, stifling creativity and imposing western world solutions in nonwestern countries. The Rapid Foundation changes this completely, by supplying technology and training directly to local people, facilitated by a overseas or local volunteer, then we allow the projects to be fully run by local people, encouraging them to spread their knowledge, train other locals and utilise the provided technologies to create, innovate and develop solutions to their own problems.

Technologies we use 3D Printers Low Cost Electronics 3D Modelling Software Virtual Communications VR/AR Technologies Open source Designs

Impact To date the Foundations projects and events have reached over 5,000 people via education and outreach events, training, Modelling/Innovation at workshops and field tests. We plan on demonstrating and educating in 2017, at a number of science engagement events, additional field tests and workshops in Ireland and Overseas. Our goal is to grow our number of partners and projects in developing countries, targeting Asia, East Africa and South America this year, in addition to expanding our actions in India, Uganda and Rwanda.

Partner Project www.printasticproject.com The Printastic project aims to reduce the influx and presence of marine plastic waste in the environment, via the creation of protocols and products which can be used by all citizens to contribute to tackling the problem. After a number of successful investigatory experiments, a low tech approach was chosen to maximize the potential impact of the idea. The project is supported by the Irish Department of Housing, Planning, Community and Local Government and An Taisce (The environmental education unit of the Irish government).
