CALL FOR ARTISTS Art on Oliver Street Public Art Program on Oliver Street Part 1: Large scale artwork hanging in store front windows Art on Oliver Street strives to beautify the Oliver Street corridor to showcase the work of talented artists, spot light potentially available storefronts and generate foot traffic to area businesses. This program is a public art initiative funded through the OATH Community Benefit Fund in partnership with Lumber City Development Corporation. 15-24 large scale reproductions of art will go on display in empty windows of commercial storefronts in the Oliver Street neighborhood in the City of North Tonawanda. Storefront locations have been preselected in a targeted geographic area. The Oliver Street Public Art Steering Committee will match participating property owners with jury-selected artists to hang artwork creating a more inviting and engaging streetscape. Artists are invited to submit 3-5 works for consideration. Selected works will be photographed at high resolution and reproduced large scale (up to 4 X 5 ) for public display. How to Submit Your Artwork: 1. All artwork must be accompanied by a submission form. Please see the last page of this RFP for the form. Please note: Artwork submitted without this form will NOT be accepted. 2. 3-5 images are to be submitted by email to LBernsohn@lumbercitydc.com. All submissions must be 300 dpi resolution, jpeg or pdf format and 4 X 6 image size approximately Entries due: Friday, March 1, 2019 at 5PM Selection Process: Artworks to be displayed in the windows will be selected by the committee during the week of March 11, 2019. Installation of Artwork: May 2019- Exact date to be determined. The committee will install all pieces. Artists are welcome to assist. Notification to Artist: All selected artists will be contacted via phone and/or email. 15-24 pieces will be selected at this time for the pilot installation, however, works may be selected to be held on file for future reproduction consideration. If this occurs the artist will be contacted for permission at that time. Photography of Works: The selected works of art will be photographed to be used for reproduction. Appointments for photos will be set during the week of March 18-22 nd at Pencil in the River Studio located at 82 Main Street, N. Tonawanda, NY 14120 by calling 716-564-9109. Selected artists will receive one complimentary print of their work. All original photos will be kept on file at Pencil in the River Studio and available for future use. Additional fine art reproductions can be printed at Pencil in the River Studio as requested and paid for by the artists. Accepted Artwork: This is a public art installation and works are to reflect a quality of respect to the general public, residents, and visitors alike. All artwork submitted is under review of the committee. Reception: June 2019- Date to be determined. An opening reception event at the Project 308 Gallery on Oliver Street featuring the original artwork of the selected artists or other artwork of their choosing. The public will be invited to participate in an art walk down Oliver street to view the windows. Exhibit Ends: This will be an ongoing project within the Oliver Street corridor. There is no designated end date to the Art in the Windows project, however property owners are required to display works for a minimum of 6 months. Publicity: Lumber City Development Corporation will be advertising the project through local news channels as well as social media, posters, flyers and direct mailings. Every artwork displayed will include the name of the artist, work, original dimensions, media type and artist contact (if desired by artist). Sales: Artists will receive one complimentary print of their work. Opportunities for the sale of works will be available at the opening reception as well as interested party s direct contact with the artist. No commission or direct compensation will be made to the artists for the inclusion of their piece in the window displays. This program is a public art initiative funded through the OATH Community Benefit Fund in partnership with Lumber City Development Corporation. Artists will be selected to create a 3-D installation as a window display for a commercial storefront in the Oliver Street neighborhood in the City of North Tonawanda. The storefront location has been preselected in a targeted geographic area. The Oliver Street Public Art Steering Committee will match the participating property owner with a jury-selected artist to create a 3-D installation promoting a more inviting and engaging streetscape. Artists are invited to submit a draft of a design for 3 windows in an underutilized building (see photo above). The sizes of the windows are 64 w x 60 h (left window), 64 w x 60 h (right window) and 94 w x 60 h (corner window) large. Your submitted design can be a hand drawn sketch, a digital rendering or a photograph. You also have space on the last page of this RFP to describe your design. The winning design will be selected by the Oliver Street Public Art Steering Committee. The artist will be provided with $1,500 to purchase supplies and create the window display. 5
