DCSO Conductor will Pass the Baton After 20 Years Tracey Rush has announced that she will retire as conductor from NISOM s Dubuque Community String Orchestra (DCSO) at the end of this season the ensemble s 20th. NISOM is currently seeking a conductor to begin with the 2018-2019 season. Rush has been DCSO s conductor since she founded the ensemble in 1998 to give adult amateur musicians an outlet for ensemble performance. The group is non-auditioned and welcomes adult string players of all ages, part of NISOM s mission of making music accessible to all. The ensemble s first concert was playing Christmas carols at a senior center. I have loved working with these wonderful musicians these many years, but it is time for a new face on the podium, someone with fresh ideas, says Rush. DCSO celebrated their 20th season with a special concert in November 2017 that featured some of the group s favorite selections from the first 19 seasons. NISOM thanks DCSO 2017-2018 podium sponsors Tim and Christine Conlon. Read full article at nisom.com Free Adult Ensembles Concert Final Bow Rush will take her final bow at a free spring concert on April 29, 2018 at 4:00 PM at Westminster Presbyterian Church. For the spring concert, DCSO will join forces with NISOM s other non-auditioned ensemble New Horizons Band (NHB), which is conducted by Glenn Pohland. The concert will feature favorite works of both conductors. Did you see NHB on TV? See news on nisom.com or watch online at kcrg.com Dubuque Community String Orchestra Open Rehearsal Come Play with Us! Monday, February 19, 6:30-8:00PM, at Emmaus Bible College, Choir Room DCSO is accepting new members for the Spring 2018 semester. The DCSO semester will begin on February 19 with a free open rehearsal. The public is invited to sit in with the group or try them free during the open rehearsal.

Playathon Fundraiser Thank you to everyone who participated in Playathon 2017! We exceeded our yearly Playathon fundraising goal and had over four hours of music during A Roshek Christmas on December 10. To thank everyone for their hard work, we awarded students prizes that included Playathon T-Shirts, show tickets, gift certificates, free restaurant food items, and much more. NISOM extends our deepest thanks to all the businesses who donated these prizes and to all the individuals who sponsored students. Thank you for helping continue music education in our community! Remember that if you did not fundraise, donate, or volunteer yet, every student is asked to do so each school year at NISOM. Roshek Holiday Auction Wreath Sharing the Spirit of Music What's the holiday season without music? A big thank you to those who bid on NISOM s silent auction item this year! Look for this opportunity to support NISOM when you bid next year during a Roshek Holiday's nonprofit silent auction on the item NISOM enters. This wreath featured trumpeters and sliver bells aglow with blue lights. Displayed in the Roshek building lobby between mid-november and early December. Holiday Cards Fundraiser Thank you to everyone who participated in writing holiday cards to our donors!
