November / December 2015 Happy Holiday s November and December are two of my favorite months. Thanksgiving has always been a family holiday for me, usually it s a weekend event and we travel to a state park. It s a time for family things; games, hikes, big meals, campfires, and there s always a new adventure someone in the family concocted. December is a time to decorate your home, sing carols, do a lot of shopping, and enjoy time with family and friends. It s just a fun two months of the year. Here at the Center we are planning two months of fun around the holidays. Starting with our Giving Tree, everyone enjoys helping the less fortunate and this is a great way of doing just that. Then we have our Veterans Day celebration where we give thanks to all our veterans. Staying in the patriotic mood, our November luncheon will include Sweet & Low s and their Star Spangled Banner Salute. You'll be transported back in time to the World War II era with songs such as, I'll Be Seeing You, Sentimental Journey, and God Bless America. One of our favorite activities is the Annual Holiday Luncheon held this year at Bravos in West Chester. Along with these activities we will have a Bunco party and the This & That program. It s going to be an entertaining time in Springdale! I hope everyone has a safe and healthy holiday season. Thanks for such a wonderful 2015 and I ll see you in 2016! The Giving Tree The Giving Tree will again be in the Springdale Community Center Lobby. The tree will be decorated with ornaments listing gift items that will be distributed to less fortunate families of Springdale. If you would like to participate, select an ornament, sign it out at the front desk, purchase the item, and return it unwrapped with the tag attached to the Springdale Community Center by Friday, December 4. We will again be partnering with S.O.S. (Springdale Offering Support) to provide for less fortunate families within our community. If you have any questions, please call 346-3910. Annual Holiday Luncheon Friday, December 4 11:30 a.m. What better way to start the holiday season than with our annual Holiday Luncheon! This year we will be gathering at Bravo Cucina Italiana of West Chester to celebrate the holidays with delicious food and seasonal inspired entertainment. The menu will include a choice of three entrées: Chicken & Vegetable Pasta, Mama s Lasagna Bolognese, or Eggplant Parmesan. All entrees include a house salad, bread, soft drinks, ice tea, coffee and dessert. Entertainment for the afternoon will be Dick Watson performing all the Christmas classics. The cost for this festive afternoon is $15.00 for members and $17.00 for guests. Reservations must be made with payment by November 30. Stop by the front desk or call 346-3910 with questions. Creating Community Through People, Parks and Programs

Bunco Thursday, November 19 1:00 p.m. For one afternoon forget the cold and stress of the fast approaching holiday season and join us for a rousing game of Bunco. Bunco is an easy game to learn, if you can throw the dice and add to 21 you ve got it made. All that is left, is to yell Bunco! There will be prizes for the winners and cake and hot chocolate for everyone. To register for this free activity call 346-3910 or stop by the front desk by November 16. Star Spangled Banner Luncheon Friday, November 13 12:00 p.m. We are extremely proud of our veterans and our country here at the Springdale Community Center. To go along with the Veterans Day celebrations this week we will be celebrating a Star Spangled Banner Luncheon. A special presentation by The Sweat & Lows will transport you back in time to the World War II era with songs such as, I'll Be Seeing You, Sentimental Journey, and God Bless America. We ll have a good old American favorite menu of pot roast with all the fixens. Reservation must be made with payment of $7.50 for members and $10.00 for guests by November 9.
