Practice Nurse Gayelene Peoples Thankyou to everyone for making me feel very welcome at Budja. I am thoroughly enjoying my new role as practice nurse. Everyone has been fantastic in helping me to understand the many aspects that make up our medical practice here. Since commencing in August we have introduced health promotion and trialling home ATSI Health Assessments. Suzie went on her first home ATSI health assessment last week and this worked really well for the patient and Suzie enjoyed having another dimension added to her role as Aboriginal Health Worker. Health promotion is an important aspect in all our lives. The plan is to have 10 health promotion sessions over the year. Our first session this month was on diabetes and next session in November will be about identifying risks of cardiac disease and how we can try and prevent or reduce our risk. This will be on Thursday 29 th November. Overall I would like to work towards identifying all our patients with chronic disease and have plans for self management, identifying people in the high risk group of developing chronic disease and setting a plan and goals to try to prevent or reduce their risk, and identifying people in the low risk and educating them early to prevent heading towards high risk and chronic disease. The basic health education that is given to all people, is to eat a balanced diet and keep up the activity regularly. If changes need to be made, make small changes gradually, that are achievable. Gayelene Peoples Practice Nurse Budja Budja PH: 53564751 gaye@budjabudjacoop.org.au PREVENTING, REDUCING RISKS and UNDERSTANDING CARDIAC DISEASE THURSDAY 29th NOVEMBER Held in the Community Room at Budja Budja, lunch provided.
