Calendar of Events 2019 Welcome to Hardman Farm! We are currently operating March 1 st December 31 st, Thursday through Monday, 10 am 4 p.m. Guided tours are offered each hour. We hope you will join us for our special events and programs in 2019. January: 143 Hwy 17 Sautee Nacoochee, GA 30571 706-878-1077 Tuesday, January 1 st First Day Hike 10:00 a.m. 11:00 a.m. Join State Parks nationwide and participate in your local First Day Hike on one of Northeast Georgia s newest trail! The new Helen to Hardman Heritage Trail is approximately one mile long (2 miles round trip) and is entirely ADA accessible. This trail is child, bike and pet friendly and meanders along the upper Chattahoochee River past historic Nora Mills Granary and into the southern end of Helen. This event is free. February: Sunday, February 10 th Super Museum Sunday 10:00 a.m. 4:00 p.m. Hardman Farm Historic Site is participating in Super Museum Sunday, hosted by the Georgia Historical Society. Admission on this day is FREE! We will be open for free grounds tours ONLY due to much needed winter projects going on at the Farm. Hardman Farm boasts 173 acres and 15 outbuildings (not including the Mansion) to explore. Saturday, February 16 th & Sunday, February 17 th Winterfest - The Sautee Nacoochee Cultural Center partners with Unicoi State Park and Lodge and Helen Arts & Heritage Center to create WinterFest: Arts & Coach Tour. This festival will include 150 artists located at three locations (Including Hardman Farm State Historic Site) within 10 miles of one another, with optional coach service. The three festivals include: The Sautee Nacoochee Arts Festival, The Fireside Arts & Crafts Show, and The Helen Winter Festival. Selected as one of the top 20 events in 2018 by the Southeast Tourism Society, WinterFest offers easy access to three art festivals. Spend a day at one location or hop on and off a coach to visit multiple locations. Watch live art demonstrations throughout the two-day festival. Drawings to win original art and fine craft prizes will be done through the weekend.

Join us for a guided tour on the hour, with the first one at 10:00 a.m., and the last going out at 3:00 p.m. Adults: $12, Seniors (63+): $10, Youth (6-17): $7, Children under 6: Free. Plus tax. Saturday, March 9 th Emory Jones Book Signing - 10:00 a.m. 3:00 p.m. Hardman Farm celebrates its past with Saturday March 23 rd - Remarkable Women of Georgia - 11:00 a.m. Come celebrate Women s History Month with us. Prepare to be astonished as you hear about 15 women born before 1900 who made outstanding achievements in Georgia. Sara Hines Martin, author of "Remarkable Georgia Women", wears a historic dress and displays photos of the women as she speaks. Ms. Martin will have her book available for sale in the gift shop. $5 per participant. April: Saturday, April 6 th Sweep the Hooch - 9:00 a.m. -12:00 p.m. - We will be partnering with Chattahoochee Riverkeepers and Smithgall Woods State Park to do a river clean-up of the Chattahoochee. We invite you to keep our rivers clean and beautiful by picking up trash along our new Helen to Hardman Heritage Trail. We will meet at the Hardman Farm visitor center. Everyone who participates will be eligible for a free Hardman Farm tour directly following the cleanup. Saturday, April 13 th Emory Jones Book Signing -10:00 a.m. 3:00 p.m. Hardman Farm celebrates its past with Saturday, April 13 th Farm Animal Fun Day 10:00 a.m. -3:00 p.m. Over the years, Hardman Farm has been the home to several species of livestock. Come visit and pet some furry friends here on the Farm as we continue our

journey to "bring the farm to life" and keep the American agricultural experience alive. Pricing: Animal encounters are free with site admission. Your site admission also includes a tour of the Mansion and Farm. Saturday, April 20 th Natural Egg Dying Program 1:00 3:00 p.m. Learn how to dye your Easter eggs the old fashioned way with natural materials such as onions, beets, and turmeric. Eggs will be provided for participants. Old fashioned games will also be available for kids to play with. The cost per participant is $5. Saturday, April 27 th Farm Camp - 10:00 a.m. -2:00 p.m. In this one-day camp, children ages 6-12 will enjoy an active day, planting seeds and getting dirty with new friends. They will learn why home farming is important and the intricate systems that allow these crops to flourish. A snack will be provided and themed from the crops being planted. Campers may wish to return to the summer camp (July 23 rd ) to harvest their crops. Each child will be given seeds to take home as well. Advanced registration required. Saturday, May 11 th Annual Spring Concert 5:00 7:00 p.m. Bluegrass artists, Jeanette and Johnny Williams Band will be performing this year! Gates will open at 3:00 p.m., where outbuildings will be open for viewing. Concert starts at 5:00 p.m. Please bring your own chair. Food will be available for purchase. This is a rain or shine event. All proceeds go to Friends of Hardman Farm. Check our website or Facebook for details. Saturday, May 18 th Emory Jones Book Signing - 10:00 a.m. 3:00 p.m. Hardman Farm celebrates its past with June: Saturday, June 1 st National Trails Day on the Helen to Hardman Heritage Trail 10:00 a.m. 12:00 p.m. Enjoy a 2 mile out and back guided hike along the Helen to Hardman Heritage Trail. This hike will lead you through several layers of history in White County, as well as the natural history of the Chattahoochee River. Meet in the Visitor Center. The cost per participant is $5. Saturday, June 8 th Emory Jones Book Signing - 10:00 a.m. 3:00 p.m. Hardman Farm celebrates its past with Saturday, June 15 th Dairy Day - 10:00 a.m. 1:00 p.m. The Mobile Dairy Classroom is a dynamic and fun educational program operated by the Agricultural Commodity Commission for Milk. The 30 ft. Mobile Dairy Classroom features a fully operational milking parlor containing a live cow used for milking and feeding demonstrations. The goal of the program is to provide children and adults with a better understanding of where milk comes from, how it is processed, the healthy benefits of consuming dairy products and dairy farmers' management of natural resources. This is a free event. Saturday, June 29 th (date is weather dependent and subject to change) U-Pick Corn Harvest Day - 10:00 a.m. 4:00 p.m. Governor Hardman grew several acres of corn to feed his livestock. The UGA White County Extension and Hardman Farm have grown an acre of pesticide free corn. Come pick some corn, listen to bluegrass music, play corn hole and enjoy a beautiful day in the Valley. Tours available on the hour; standard rates apply. Corn is available for purchase at 25 cents per ear. July: Tuesday, July 9 th - Anna Ruby Tuesday 10:00 a.m. 2:00 p.m. What was life like for a well-to-do girl in Nacoochee in the 1870s? In this one day camp, 6-10 year old girls will play period games, try on period clothes, and have an English tea. Advanced registration required. Email scarlett.fuller@dnr.ga.gov to sign up. Saturday, July 13 th Emory Jones Book Signing -10:00 a.m. 3:00 p.m. Hardman Farm celebrates its past with Tuesday, July 16 th - Arrowheads Through the Ages - 10:00 a.m. -2:00 p.m. In this one-day camp for children ages 6-10, the evolution of Native American hunting tools will be explored. What tools were used for which animals? How did they change over time? The fields of Archaeology and History combine with recreation to create a fun, active day for kids. Tuesday, July 23 rd - Farm Camp - 10:00 a.m. -2:00 p.m. In this one-day camp, children ages 6-12 will enjoy an active day tending to the garden, harvesting crops and getting dirty with new friends. They will learn why home farming is important and the intricate systems that allow these crops to flourish. A farm to table snack will be provided from the harvested crops. Saturday, July 27 th Farm to Table 6:30 p.m. Join us as we celebrate nearly 150 years of harvest at Hardman Farm. We invite you for an evening in The Valley, featuring live music, period dressed characters teaching about the history of the Farm, and a locally grown dinner and drinks. The dishes will be based on what would have been enjoyed in the summers of the early 1900s. $75 per person. Saturday, September 28 th Your State Parks Day -10:00 a.m. 12:00 p.m. Volunteers around the country will be helping to improve their favorite state park or historic site on this special day. We hope you will join us in improving Hardman Farm. We will break for lunch at 12:00 PM. Volunteers may leave for lunch, or bring a lunch to eat at our picnic tables. Volunteers will receive a complementary tour of the house at 1:00 p.m. October: Saturday, October 19 th Fall Celebration at Hardman Farm 10:00 a.m. 4:00 p.m. Enjoy the feel of an old-fashioned country fair set in the beautiful Nacoochee Valley, surrounded by the colors of the season. Hands-on pioneer skills exhibits, traditional craft vendors, local authors and historians, and apple cider from a hand-cranked press. Learn to make candles, butter, and wash with a wash board. Try your luck in the potato sack race or old fashioned games. Enjoy lunch and treats as you listen to mountain music with your neighbors. The Nichols-Hunnicutt-Hardman House will be open for self-guided tours of the first floor. Parking fee required for entrance.

Sunday, November 10 th Veteran s Appreciation Day 10:00 a.m. -4:00 p.m. In honor of Veteran's Day, Hardman Farm will be inviting all Veteran's and their spouses to enjoy free admission to Hardman Farm on Sunday, November 10th, 2019, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Our last hourly guided tour of the Mansion will begin at 3:00 p.m. Hardman Farm Staff would like to thank you for your service!! December: November 29 th, 30 th, December 6 th, 7 th, 13 th & 14 th A Victorian Christmas in Nacoochee 4:00 7:00 p.m. Come see the house in period holiday decor and learn about Victorian Christmas traditions from docents dressed in their finest 1870's garb. This open house on Friday and Saturday nights in December is highlighted by twinkling candle lights, horse drawn wagon rides, s mores and a walk down the Unicoi Road. Guests will need to purchase their tickets in the Visitor Center, which will have a special treat each night, including live Christmas music and hot chocolate. Guests are advised to bring a flashlight for the walk back your vehicle. Adults: $12, Seniors (63+): $10, Youth (6-17): $7, Children under 6: Free. Plus tax.
