With 11 different student-athletes from six different Pac-12 teams featured on Baseball America, NCBWA, and Collegiate Baseball Preseason All-America teams, Pac-12 baseball looks to have another successful season. The Pac-12 looks to top last seasons outstanding performance, when OREGON STATE took their postseason journey all the way to Game 4 of the program s sixth NCAA College World Series appearance. With the season beginning on Friday, the USA Today/ESPN Top 25 Coaches Preseason Poll has three Pac-12 teams ranked. Oregon State leads the way as unanimous No. 2 team nationally, followed by UCLA at No. 14, and Stanford is No. 16. The NCBWA has four Pac-12 teams in the preseason top-35 with No. 2 Oregon State, UCLA at No. 12, Stanford at No. 13, and ARIZONA at No. 30. Baseball America tabs three Pac- 12 teams in its preseason top-25 with Oregon State, No. 2, followed by No. 9 Stanford and No. 13 UCLA. Collegiate Baseball includes four Pac-12 teams in the top-40 preseason rankings: Oregon State is No. 2, UCLA is No. 14, Stanford is No. 24 for the second year in a row and Arizona is No. 36. The Pac-12 coaches felt similarly in the preseason coaches poll voting Oregon State the preseason favorite for the third consecutive season, followed by Stanford, UCLA, Arizona and California to round out the top five. 1

Oregon State had four student-athletes featured on three different preseason All-America lists- National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA), Collegiate Baseball and Baseball America. OSU first baseman Nick Madrigal collected first-team selections on all three polls, while OREGON pitcher Kenyon Yovan garnered a pair of first team All-America selections. GOLDEN SPIKES: The USA Baseball Golden Spikes Award Preseason Watch List features 50 amateurs, six of which are student-athletes from four different Pac-12 teams. With six players, the Pac-12 is tied for the third-most representatives among all conferences. California and Stanford are 2-of-6 total schools with two players on the watch list. Now in its 40th year recognizing the top amateur base-ball player in the country, seven former Pac-12 baseball players have won the award, most recently pitcher Trevor Bauer of UCLA in 2011. STOPPER OF THE YEAR: The Pac-12 has four student-athletes on the NCBWA Stopper of the Year Preseason Watch List. Arizona State s Connor Higgins, California s Erik Martinez, Oregon State s Jake Mulholland and Oregon s Kenyon Yovan. The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association will be presenting the Stopper of the Year Award to the top relief pitcher in Division I baseball for the 14th straight year at the College World Series on Saturday, June 16, 2018. DRAFT: Every Pac-12 school had at least one student-athlete selected in the 2017 MLB Draft, with a total of 46 Pac-12 players drafted. Four Pac-12 baseball players were drafted among the top 75 draft picks with Oregon s David Peterson as the first Pac-12 player to be drafted with the 20th overall pick to the New York Mets. 10 Stanford 6 Arizona, UCLA 5 Oregon State 4 - Utah, Washington 3 Oregon, Washington State 2 California, USC 1 Arizona State FACES IN THE DUGOUT: Stanford head coach Mark Marquess retired last year after 41 seasons with the most wins in Pac-12 histo-ry and fourth-most wins in Division I history. Marquess is one of only five NCAA coaches to reach 1,600 career wins and only three have done so at a single school. A member of the American Baseball Coaches Hall of Fame, he led Stanford to two NCAA titles, advanced to 14 CWS, appeared in 29 NCAA Regionals and won at least a share of nine Pac-12 titles. For the first time in program history, Stanford baseball retired a number and No. 9 will be forever remembered. David Esquer will succeed coach Marquess legacy and is very familiar with the program. He played shortstop under coach Marquess on Stanford s 1987 national championship team, and served as an assis-tant for the Cardinal from 1991-96. After spending 18 years as the head coach at California, Esquer will continue his venture in the Pac-12 supporting a new look in the 2018 season. Former Golden Bears pitching coach and major league pitcher Mike Neu became the 11th baseball head coach in California program history on July 5, 2017. Neu established himself as one of the Pac-12 s top pitching coaches and recruiters as Cal s pitching coach from 2012-2015, helping the Bears compile a team ERA of 3.03 his last year for the program s second-best mark since 1976. Neu returns to Berkeley after two years as head coach at the University of the Pacific where he guided the Tigers to 40 wins over two seasons. The squad returns several key players including first baseman Alfonso Rivas, a preseason National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) first team All-American and 2018 USA Baseball Golden Spikes Award watch list member. ARIZONA STATE -finished the season tied for 10th with an 8-22 Pac-12 record and 23-32 season record. The Sun Devils look to lean on junior pitcher Connor Higgins, named to the NCBWA Preseason Stopper of the Year award. The Perfect Game announced its preseason All-Pac-12 predictions, naming outfielder Gage Canning All-Pac-12 First-Team selection and infielder Drew Swift was pegged as the preseason Pac-12 Freshman of the Year favorite. CALIFORNIA - ended up tied for fifth in the Pac-12 with a 15-15 Conference record and a 25-29 season record. Cal welcomes back a familiar face with new head coach Mike Neu who severed as the Golden Bear s pitching coach from 2012-2015. The team returns infielder/pitcher Andrew Vaughn the 2017 Pac-12 Freshman of the Year and right-handed pitcher Erik Martinez, a three-time NCBWA Stopper of the Year watch list recipient. OREGON finished eighth in the Pac-12 standings with a 12-18 league mark and a 30-25 overall record. Oregon lost pitcher David Peterson, the NCBWA March Pitcher of the Month was selected by the New York Mets with the 20th overall pick in the 2017 MLB Draft. The Duck s closer Kenyon Yovan returns to the mound for his second season after earning NCBWA first team All-America and Collegiate Baseball s second team All-America honors. OREGON STATE the 2017 Pac-12 Champion (27-3) finished the season with a 56-6 overall record that garnered a.903 winning percentage, which ties for fourth on the NCAA single-season list. The Beavers solidified their Conference title the same game as head coach Pat Casey s 1,000th career win. Casey was named the NCWBA National Coach of the Year. The Beavers open the season as a unanimous top-10 team for the second consecutive year with the No. 2 spot in the country. STANFORD - finished second in the Conference going 21-9 in league play with a 42-16 overall record. The Cardinal was slated second again in the 2018 Pac-12 Coaches preseason poll. Head coach Mark Marquess finished his last season after 41 years at the helm and David Esquer will take charge of the baseball program in 2018. Stanford had the most student-athletes drafted in the 2017 MLB draft of the Pac-12 with 10 selections. Junior infielder Nico Hoerner and pitcher Kris Bubic each collected at least three preseason All-America honors and were named to the Golden Spikes Award watch list. UCLA - recorded a 19-11 league record to hold third place in the Conference and tallied a 30-27 overall mark. UCLA was tied for second in the Pac-12 for the most student-athletes in the 2017 MLB draft with six. The Bruins return junior right-handed pitcher Jon Olsen, who earned All-Pac-12 honors last season and was named a Preseason All-American by Collegiate Baseball and the NCBWA. USC - finished the season tied for 10th in the Conference with an 8-22 conference record and a 21-34 season record. The Trojans had two student-athletes drafted in the 2017 MLB draft. USC returns five starters and nine pitchers, including junior infielder Brandon Perez, who started all 54 games and ranked 11th in the Pac-12 with a.328 batting average. UTAH - tied for fifth in the Pac-12 with a 15-15 Conference record and had a 27-24 overall record. The Utes had four student-athletes drafted in the 2017 MLB draft. The Utes return two-time All-Pac-12 junior outfielder DaShawn Keirsey, Jr. who finished third on the team last year with a.327 batting average and fourth in the Pac-12 in both hits per game (1.42) and triples (5). WASHINGTON - landed seventh on the Pac-12 table with a 14-16 league mark and a 25-29 season record. Was picked to finish similarly this season according to the Pac-12 Coaches Preseason Poll. Four student-athletes from UW were drafted in the 2017 MLB draft. The Huskies return three All-Pac-12 honorable mention players in the field including infielders AJ Graffanino, Levi Jordan and catcher Willie Maclver. WASHINGTON STATE - finished the season ninth in the Pac-12 with a 10-20 conference record and a 24-29 overall record. WSU had three student-athletes drafted in the 2017 MLB draft. Oregon State was the 2017 Pac-12 Champion with a 27-3 Conference record and a historic 56-6 record overall for a.903 winning per-centage. OSU became the fifth NCAA baseball team all-time to end the season with better than a.900 winning percentage and are now tied for the fourth highest. The Beavers return NCBWA/ Pac-12 Coach of the Year Pat Casey, Pac-12 Pitcher of the Year Luke Heimlich and Pac-12 Player of the Year/ Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year Nick Madrigal. Stanford was picked to finish second overall with 89 points after taking second in the league last season (42-16, 21-9) and earned the Cardinals 30th NCAA regional appearance. UCLA tallied 84 points to hold third place. ARIZONA was picked to finish in fourth place with 68 points. CALIFORNIA totaled 56 points to round out the top five. OREGON finished sixth in the polling, picking up 51 points. WASHINGTON finished seventh with 50 points. ARIZONA STATE finishes eighth with 41 points. USC tallied 31 points in ninth place.
