Here it is August and a year has past and it is national convention time again. Timing being what it is, I won t be here for the August meeting. Tom Jones and I will be at the convention in Buffalo, New York. Wish us good luck. Buffalo is a town of 3 million. Yes, I mean people. I am looking forward to meeting more of the members and getting a better idea of how many intend to attend our convention. Speaking of that, it is time to stop the discussions and start with the action of putting the final touches on the plans. Much help will be needed this coming year, not only the week of convention, but all year. You will be hearing me begging for all of the time you can spare. Thank you in advance. Thanks also for the turn-out for the video on the rims. I m sorry for the short notice. I have tried to get this done all year and it came down to the last chance to get it done. Scott will be conducting the meeting and I don t know if he has more for the agenda. Information has not come to me yet on what is expected of us for the fair. I know Bill Kennedy has mentioned using us on MSU day and normally we are involved on veterans day. I will try to have more information before I go to Buffalo. More thought and a decision needs to be made on the Ball and the amount paid if any, by the league. 1 Celebrating the 40th Anniversary of the Eugene Sara Marine Corps League Detachment #418 Then get your names in for tickets. I will have another meeting with First Sgt. Zeigler when I get back and see if the plans are finalized and where our help is needed. I had a opportunity to meet the new First Sgt. a few weeks ago. We had a great conversation and l m sure we will enjoy our time working together. I also got word that Burt is intending to be in the area the week of the fair. I hope he has time to stop by the booth at the fair or our meeting to say hello. Best of luck to him with his new Detachment. Thanks to all for the help with details this last month. See you when I return. Tom Lowry, Commandant (406)366-1347 sevenn@midrivers.com Chaplain Jim Borner cracking up on the rims

Senior Vice Commandant Report: Hello all, As I write this today I know I will be attending a Growl in Bozeman on the 31st. I look forward to my time together with this group of Devil Dogs. I am in receipt of a few Devil Dog membership cards. I will make it around this weekend to get them to you guys. The social media group is up and running. I enjoy sharing military humor kind of things that I find on other MCL group pages. In the near future I will use it to update MCL groups and pages on Facebook of our upcoming national convention. I will do this by linking our official Convention website to their pages. MEMBERSHIP DUES! Yes sir, it's that time of year. Excellent time for everyone to consider that Life Membership. It is also the best time to be pushing membership. Grab them three membership applications out of the Semper Fi Magazine do a little recruiting. YUT! I Love You Guys, I'll see you next month. Chaplains Report: Members & families, Summer is flying by, you know what's next. Pray you all are enjoying what's left of summer. First up, is that I won't be at the next meeting for we will be having company from Las Vegas. Even though it's a ways off, I would like all capable members to remember August 17th at National cemetery be there at 12:30 p.m. for military honors for Dennis Schaefer who passed away July 2. He was a life member of our detachment. We will be leaving town for a few days, but Lord willing I'll be back for the funeral on the 17th. Let us keep our prayers going out to his wife, Diana and family. Tom Smith got the sign for veterans day at the fair. It would be great if members could help. The Metra people furnished tables and chairs in the past, so he might need names to contact them. Also a permit for his van so he can park behind Metra. This isn't my job but hope it helps. God bless all and keep prayers in your heart. James D. Borner (Chaplain) Jr. Vice Commandants Report: Marines, Well its time for the National MCL convention and Tom Jones & Tom Lowry are going the event to represent us. We need to keep on working towards our event next year. It sounds like members at the august meeting may be slim, if we do have a meeting at all. As Tom L. stated we need to know if you plan to attend the ball with the Marines and also need to decide how much the league to supplement towards the cost. Have not set much up yet, but we will probably do a BBQ get together towards the middle or end of September. More to come later. Lastly, we will be looking for a chaplain, Jim has decided to step down from the position, so don t bug him about it, just step up and help out, I know we have some good people out there who would be great. Paymasters Report: Marines, It was a busy month for details including the Shout Out on the rims. Thanks to all that participated. Laurel and I took a Adult Resource Alliance tour of Pompey's Pillar and the Huntley Project Homesteader Museum. It lasted 6 hours and was very good. It will be a good activity for the 2019 National Convention. I'll be leaving Billings on the 7th for Niagara Falls. Tom Jones, Paymaster (406)670-4364 tcgysgt21@yahoo.com Tom & Laurel Jones visit with Tiny Metcalf at the Video shoot on the rims. 3

Judge Advocates Report: League Members, It feels good to be able to participate in league events again. We have several members that work very hard to make sure we have details when requested. We look sharp, people know who we are and appreciate what we do, whether it be color guards, honor guards or shooting details. Whatever we do takes participation. Thank you for the time that you can give. Don Huffman, Judge Advocate Sergeant at Arms Report: Marines, Thanks to those that came out for the Color guard at Laurel Ford for the Wounded Warrior event on July 28th. We have a few things coming up, Veterans day at the fair on August 17th, we need help manning the table and selling raffle tickets. Same day we have services for Dennis Schaefer at the National Cemetery at noon. Keith Thompson, Detail Commander 4
