FREE T U I T I O N A V A I L A B L E Emergency Medical Technician - Hybrid Course - Online Northwest Iowa Community College brings a hybrid option to EMT candidates. The students will be required to attend 5 all-day Saturday sessions at NCC in order to complete the required skills, practice and competencies. This course will cover the 2011 EMT Scope of Practice changes. Need-based tuition assistance is available. Modules presented include: Preparation of the EMT; Airway Management; Patient Assessment; Medical/Behavioral Emergencies; OB/GYN; Trauma; Infants and Children; Ambulance Operations, and additional skills. Clinical time at an emergency room is required in addition to the classroom hours. College credit is available. Minimum class size of 6 is required. Prerequisites: Must be 17 years old at the start of class, be proficient in reading, writing, and speaking English, and physically capable of performing basic EMT skills. The student MUST have access to high speed internet at their residence to take this course. The student must bring a credit or debit card the first night for completion of the on-line background check. This course from the American Heart Association will provide the information needed to provide pediatric first aid for most common emergencies and CPR for adult, child and infant. The participant will learn how to accurately evaluate a student without adding their own personal bias into the testing. FREE T U I T I O N A V A I L A B L E 75 HOUR CERTIFIED NURSE AIDE This course is 75 hours in length and meets the requirements for taking the Nursing Assistant Certification Exam which qualifies personnel to work as a nursing assistant in Long Term Care. The purpose of the course is to develop the basic skills to care for the elderly. This course consists of 30 hours of lecture, 15 hours of simulated lab time, and 30 hours of clinical. NURSE AIDE COMPETENCY EXAM To fulfill the training requirements of OBRA for nurse aides working in Long Term Care facilities and skilled nursing facilities a written and skills competency exam is required. These must be retained by licensed professionals for four years. Duplicate certificates are provided for a fee. No credit will be given for partial attendance.
