The distinctive unit insignia (DUI) redesignated retroactive to 1 October 2003, for the Arizona Army National Guard Element, Joint Force Headquarters and amended to update the description and add a symbolism, was: a. Originally approved for the State Staff of Arizona by letter AG 421.7, Office of the Quartermaster General, 26 July 1928. b. Amended to correct the wording of the description by letter AG 421.7, Office of the Quartermaster General, 20 October 1928. c. Redesignated for Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment and noncolor bearing units of the Arizona Army National Guard and amended to update the description byletter AGAH-A, The Institute of Heraldry, 6 January 1969. d. Redesignated for Headquarters, State Area Command, Arizona Army National Guard by letter DAAG-HDP-A, The Institute of Heraldry, 24 September 1985. 2. The description and symbolism of the design are as follows: DESCRIPTION A Gold color metal and enamel device 1 3/32 inches (2.78 em) in height consisting of a White shield charged with the state crest of Arizona Proper (on a wreath Or and Gules a giant cactus Vert) all within a diminished Green border and below a Gold scroll bearing the state motto "DITAT DEUS" in Black letters. SYMBOLISM The cactus appears on the Seal of the State. As the original settlement within the State was of Spanish origin, the twists of the wreath are yellow and red. The motto translates to "God Enriches."

The shoulder sleeve insignia redesignated retroactive to 1 October 2003, for the Arizona Army National Guard Element, Joint Force Headquarters and amended to update the description, was originally authorized for Headquarters, State Area Command, Arizona Army National Guard by letter DAPC-PDH-P, The Institute of Heraldry, 5August 1988. 2. The description and symbolism of the design are as follows: DESCRIPTION On a seven-sided shield with a 1/8 inch (.32 em) white border, 3 1/2 inches (8.89 em) in height and 3 3/8 inches (8.57 em) in width overall, the background divided horizontally yellow above blue, three red rays issuing upward from center point, overall two arrows crossed diagonally and a bayonet, point up, all white. SYMBOLISM The background of the shield alludes to the State flag of Arizona and the unit's location. The white crossed arrows are an Indian symbol of peace and reflect the unit's home area and heritage. The bayonet symbolizes the unit's commitment and readiness to fight to defend the nation 3. This authorization is in accordance with AR 670-1 and National Guard Bureau Organizational Authority Number 79-04, dated 26 March 2004.
